I didn't catch the news yesterday

yikes

BBC said:
The second Test between pakistan and Sri Lanka has been called off following the attack on the bus carrying the tourists' team in Lahore.

Five pakistani policemen escorting the team bus were killed in the gunfire.

Five Sri Lanka players - Thilan Samaraweera, Ajantha Mendis, Tharanga Paranavitana, Kumar Sangakkara and Thilan Thushara - were injured.

Samaraweera, who was shot in the thigh, is in hospital but none of the players' injuries are life threatening.

Sporting impact? No-one will tour pakistan for years to come, possibly even for a generation (unless there is serious change in government there first).

You think people being shot and killed is exciting? Its probably as much fun as having your head stamped on. Oh wait....

I don't think there'll be cricket played in pakistan for the forseeable future. Also the World Cup must surely be in doubt, what with the Mumbai bombings and the Tamils going at it in Sri Lanka?

Ofcourse it's exciting........

No one is saying its fun or good, its EXCITING.

Let me go ahead and copy and past a definition for you.

Excite \Ex*cite"\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Excited; p. pr. & vb. n. exciting.]

[L. excitare; ex out + citare to move rapidly, to rouse: cf. OF. esciter, exciter, F. exciter. See Cite.]

1. To call to activity in any way; to rouse to feeling; to kindle to passionate emotion; to stir up to combined or general activity; as, to excite a person, the spirits, the passions; to excite a mutiny or insurrection; to excite heat by friction.

2. (Physiol.) To call forth or increase the vital activity of an organism, or any of its parts.

there is a thread in PnP but can we leave this one open to discuss the sporting impacts?

Clearly the sport is dead for a while in pakistan - but pakistan should continue to participate in teh test arena imho - otherwise players are punished for no reason.

Player exodus to england? Perhaps. maybe the ICC and ECCB might relax rules to accomodate more o/seas players so players can continue to play in saftey - having said that will the domestic game in pakistan be affected? might even strengthen our domestic game, lord knows it needs it!
The pakistan team should still tour and so it's simply a case of finding a neutral venue for the 'home' series. I personally would like that to be the UK - I reckon they'd sell out for meaningful tests. Probably make more money that way too considering there is no appetite for test cricket for the cricket viewing public in pakistan. They would also be playing on decent, result producing tracks for a change smile There are plenty of pakistani cricketers playing in minor leagues/county cricket already and so I don't think there will be an exodus as such.

BRADFORD OR LUTON Will be a good neutral venue
