Christ... What is the point of these threads. it will just end up in a rugby vs Football slanging match...

(I love football, and support Everton)

football is a great game to play.

the way its played by professionals (i.e. go beyond the rules to win) and refereed by the governing bodies (i.e. inconsistently) it is a waste of time. Inconsistently applied rules and cheating participants remove any reason for playing or watching a game.

I support one club - the club where I was born.

However I am rapily going off the 'beautiful game' as it moves out of reach of the average man on the street.

I like Football. Unfortunatelty I support Newcastle United, so I don't get to see much being played. hehe

Still, it's better than a kick in the cock.

I didn't really get interested in football until my mid-20's.

I only tend to watch a match on the TV if it's one of the big teams, or if it's the final stages of a big competition (Scottish Cup, FA Cup, Champions League etc).

I have been to a few matches, all up in Scotland, almost all were corporate hospitality through my previous employer or through the wife's employer.

I don't really have a favourite team. I enjoy watching a fast paced skillful game and enjoy shouting at the telly when one of them there Chelsea players cheats or moans at the ref!

Also - Andy Gray (Sky Sports commentator) - I would never get tired of punching that man.

51% don't like football! Hoorah, I am not alone! None of my (non car fanatic) friends can understand why I don't have any interest in football. Opening gambit of most people I meet in my line of work is "what team do you support?" When I mutter that I don't and that I am into cars and motorsport, the look on some folks faces is like I have just landed on the planet!

I reply Bath Rugby and Woodford Green AC (my running club). It is amusing how many people will ask "what team?" without specifying a sport.

There are a couple of us in the office not interested in football, but we're motorsport fans (one of them is a rally navigator) so we talk about that.

I presume they look at you equally as funny when you ask them which Le mans team they support? I don't know why people make an issue of not liking football. They don't make a fuss about not liking tennis, or darts, etc. Why the fascination with football?

I love that two.

Its quite hard though, sometimes one occaisionally finds oneself in a conversation about football (like with a barman or someone in queue). at this point the non-football fan has two options: try to blag it or to admit you're not interested. The latter option tends to lead to looks similar to those that must have greeted the first western explorers to land in North America... The first one is harder to do, but you can actually be quite generic about what's happening without giving away too much ignorance.

During the last world cup, I went shopping during the first of England's games. Most people in shops asked me things like "not watching the match then?" and I had quite a lot of fun replying with things like "what match?" etc.

Loyal Watford fan who has followed through thin and thin. I'm slowly turning off football though - mainly due to the way the Premiership has ruined the game.

Don't mind the game, or the rules. I've always had a bit of fun having a kickaround, but sadly I've grown away from watching the professional game due to how far out of reach it now is, the players - antics on and off the field, and the driving forces behind the professional sport.

I'd rather have sex with a rabid dog whilst sucking off a HIV positive gentleman than watch football, so no I'm not a football fan.
