I saw a story somewhere earlier this week that the serial show-boater has patented "CR9" in his native Portugal. Could be on his way out of OT then?
If he were to move to (say) Real Madrid, he couldn't really take number 7 (currently worn by Madrid legend Raul). Real's current number 9 is Saviola, who's already been mentioned as a makeweight in other deals.

Apparantly he doesn't own the image rights to CR7 in Portugal, where he is opening a bar/nightclub/restaurant so it will be called CR9.

The Real Madrid player in question is also up for sale as well as being banded about in part exchange deals.

Figo wears no. 7 for Portugal and has a bar named 'Bar 7' in Vilamoura, so it makes sense for Ronaldo to protect his international shirt no. in the same way.

(The Figo bar has a very Portuguese theme, with the claret / red / green and yellow decor)

None of it is really coming from him, though.

It has mostly been a PR stunt by Calderon.
