Not only in these times of economic crisis but in general, how can anyone in the world justify the reason behind paying someone to play football at £500,000 a week..like this story about kaka....!!!!!!!! I'm not into football personally but surely even the most avid fan can't think of a valid reason for this kind of outrageous spending....

Michael Schumacher was on more than that when he was driving for Ferrari, and Tiger Woods also earns more than that. You are right no footballer is worth it though - Messi I guess has the highest value and even so must only be worth 180ish a week

It's the tax equivelant of creating 1000 £25k pa jobs in UK plc, all paid for by Abu Dhabi.

Actually it's more, because we'll pay tax on all £500K bar £40k and the higher tax rate, I reckon roughly 1850 jobs created.

We should celebrate it.

You don't think there might be a clever accountant reducing the liability?

I've been in business about 15 years, time was tax was almost a non-issue, these days there's very little you can get away with.

What possible deductions can a footballer make? Last time I saw a premiership footballers salary slip it all went through standard PAYE. There's nowhere to hide.

Kaka to Man City for approx £108m. He isn't even the best player in the world, officially. My prediction is C. Ronaldo to Madrid in the summer for £125m.

yes There's little you can do, he's an employee, so will be subject to the same crap as everyone else, however, who knows what's in the deal? This rich UAE bloke may be able to do all sorts of tax planning in his own country...

He'll more than likely be resident in the UK so his earnings from sponsorship etc will also be taxable in the UK.

I'm all for it, if some rich dude wants to bring his billions to the UK then we should celebrate. Kaka could be donating the best part of £10,000,000 per year in tax, plus spending some of that on items in this country - all funded from someone outside of the UK - ace thumbup
