I'm going fishing on a Charter boat this Saturday, heading out towards the Nab Tower off the Coast of the Isle of Wight.
Hoping to catch some nice sized Cod, among others. Already got in mind what bait/traces, ect I'll be using, but I'd appreciate any tips/cheats to attract the fishie wishies though.
Someone at work mentioned putting Pilchard Oil on the lures??

Cheers
Hoppy

This isn't just one big euphimism-of-a-thread for your wifes lost item?

We chartered a boat from Yarmouth to near the Needles fishing a couple of years ago although it was September rather than January. I caught a lovely bream and I was the only one to catch a bass smile. One guy caught a huge ray that the skipper took a photo of. We used squid and mackeral.

Good luck - hope you catch a big one!!

Reminds me when I stayed near Yarmouth some years ago, about a mile along the coast at a place called Eastmoor. I found a little jetty and cast out before tieing my rod to the jetty, then went for a walk. On my return I found I had hooked a large tired out bass. I've been thinking about taking up fishing recently.

Catch a few mackerel first to use as your bait smothered in Marmite.

Or use a little chiken liver.

That reminds me of when I went night fishing with a mate off Chesil Beach. Cast out, sit down, open cool box, drink twelve cans of Guiness, pass out, wake up the next morning, reel in tired Codling, have a sandwich, notice half way through that my mate's laughing his head off, open what's left of sandwich, look at five halves of Ragworm, throw up yuck

THis thread reminds me of the last fish that I caught which was the smallest of a 4 fish haul

This thread doean't actually remind me of that at all. Catching little cod in the freezing English channel sounds a bit rubbish. I just wanted to gloat.

Another one for lugworms. Never failed when beach fishing as a kid.

Take some seasickness tablets (before you set off) and some ginger biscuits is you are messing about with pilchard oil in the Solent. It can get quite choppy there.

I went deep sea fishing in Mauritius back in 2001. Loved it. We hooked two massive Marlin but one of the boat boys didnt have the lines set up properly and both snapped the line. The skipper was very angry. (I was secretly pleased though as seemed a shame to kill them) I managed to see it jump out of the water though - it awoke me from my stupor state of having drank too much the night before. Was an amazing sight as it atomised out of the water. Also caught Bonito, Wahoo and Dorado.

Here is a friend admiring one of the catches from another boat back at Port Louis

Most recently in Janaury we went fishing in the Maldives - maldivian stylee.. basically just trailing a lure off the side of the boat and you hold onto it. Nearly ripped my hand off when I got a bite, but whatever it was broke the line - always the same story!!

Usually we go to Pevensey Bay and night fish from the beach there. Not much out there though - usually just catch scad, the odd codling and most recently a baby thornback ray which was ever so cute! Nothing worth eating.

It took me a while to be able to handle live lug worm - started off wearing marigolds (just as well it was night time lol) but can now handle the buggers with my bare hands - just hate it when they squirt nastiness at you when putting onto the hook! Can't do Ragworms... too many teeth !!
