So KP versus Moores spat/dispute seems to have ended with KP resigning.

Cricinfo

Sky News

Did wonder how long his ego would allow him to remain! Think the Ashes won't be changing hands this year!

Any now Moores has quit too.

Who next? Strauss is my favourite, perhaps with Graham Ford (current Kent coach)

You still need a hard nut like Boof Lehman, Warney or Rod Marsh running the show to rise above the current performance levels there appears to be a bit too much inbreeding at the moment and over the last number of years.

And that's coming from an Aussie who just wants to see good international cricket.

Too many egos and no-one prepared to work for the good of the team. It needs one person absolutely in charge, not sharing power (e.g. selection decisions) around a committee. yes, get input from coaches and the captain but the decision should be down to a team manager, not some "chairman of the board of selectors" or other pseudo-business committee title.

Jeebus.

I think Strauss should have got it in the first place, KP terrible selection for Captain.

What names are being mentioned for coach?

I said it on the SA Vs Oz thread, after today the SA team would walk over broken glass for Smith and rightly so.

When has anyone in living memory in the Pom side engendered that much emotion from his players.

The last ones probably worked in coal mines and played against Ritchie Benaud or Don Bradman.

Pietersen is about the best thing thats happened to English cricket in many a long year, ok so tatically he is no Mike Brealey (or even a Vaughan for that matter) but at least he backs himself, hasn't let the pressure affect his batting and actually looks like he gives a *&^% about poor performances. (listen to any Paul Collingwood interview for examples of not giving a t*ss about playing badly)

Typically ECB to make a botch of it instead simply handing Pietersen the rope and saying - you thionk you can do it off you go, Bring back the Ashes or prepare to move to India.

If I was Pietersen I would quit and go to the IPL and the ECB would have to BEG me to come back.

Check his averages in tests again if you don't think he is all that !

Yes now they would, but when he was first appointed it was very different and he had a very turbulent few years before maturing into the role. Albeit most of it was running his mouth off against opponents rather than directed inwards

He was a boy when he got the job, he is now a man and he wants to end his career as a player nurturing the next captain.

On this tour his interviews have shown that he has grown into the job learned from his past mistakes and worthy of the position he holds.

Next full time SA captain with Smith as a player, quite possibly Amla

Sorry, I wasn't knocking smith at all, and I totally agree with you. What I was trying to show was that it takes time to adjust from player to captain and that Pietersen should have been given the same sort of time scale (say two years) to get the team to where it should be.

Once again the farts in blazers are making a horlicks of English sporting teams. I'd have rather seen Cook in the job than Strauss ...talk about a compromise candidate

Was a tosser Pietersen has turned out to be ...

His posturing as England cricket captain and the inflation of his ego has allowed him to put himself before the team - unforgivable.

There would have been far better ways of ousting moores if that is what he wanted instead of this leaking to the press bks - go and sit round a table like men and thrash it out (Max Moseley-style)

Strauss will have to get the job by default and Flintoff (ino) should be made one-day captain.

Whether Pietersen plays again for England or fks off to India, I couldn't really care.

He's a nob.

I hope Pietersen stops playing for England altogether, that way he can play for Hampshire all season.

Also, am hearing rumours that both Pietersen and Moores were sacked by the ECB (rather than they quit). However given that Comical Ali is now the ECB press chief, anything is possible hehe

Just read about this on the BBC website (away in the USA where cricket isn't reported). What was the Moores spat about? It was rumoured that they didn't get on before KP took the job. KP may be better suited to be in the ranks, either way we cant afford to lose him. Moores was a nobody and should never have been appointed IMHO (I've been consistent in that view) and although I was against KP's appointment initially he lead by example and would have become a good skipper I think.

I would go for Key rather than Strauss as a replacement but I guess they will go for Strauss. Whatever they do they shouldn't give it to Fred (see Botham) or split it. A leader and an inspirational tactician is needed now (rather than a "coach") and I just hope that the ECB finally grasp the nettle and appoint an internationally respected figure to replace Moores.

Step forward Shane Warne......
