Forrest Griffin and Wanderlei Silva. smile

I'll watch the following day no doubt. I'm looking forward to seeing the rematch with Rampage and Silva, especially with UFC rules as opposed to Pride (where they have met before and Silva won).

Silva has won both times!

Each time he won, Silva employed tactics that are not allowed in the UFC (stamping). Whilst I think it could just be a case of Silva having Jackson's number, I'm intrigued to see what difference the UFC rules make to the outcome.

Posted this on another forum for those who dont have sultanata, did a bit of background too. Wandys wins over Quinton in Pride werent due to stomps, it was muay thai knees to the head mainly. Wandy hasnt been the same since leaving Pride (funny how the UFC tests for 'roids and Pride didnt and now wandy and many other Pride folk look a lot smaller).

Frank Mir who beat the now heavyweight title holder brock lesnar last time out fights nogueria, who is the interim title holder due to randy couture being an arse, for the interim title. The winner fights brock to unify the titles. Franks style is primarily Brazilian jui jitsu and is a BJJ black belt as is Nog, they were the 2 coaches on the ultimate fighter season which just finished. Frank is a legend and my favourite fighter, he almost lost his leg in a motorbike crash and was forced to give up his UFC HW title about 5 years ago. Since then hes been written off as the fighters from "Pride" came to the UFC, of which Nog is one, and thrown to brock lesnar who was probably supposed to beat him.

Griffin and rashead both fought their way through different seasons of the ultimate fighter with forrest winning the UFC light heavyweight title against rampage jackson last time out. Rashad has beaten englands mike bisping and forced him to move down a weight category and in his last fight, rashad brutally KO'd Chuck Liddell the former LHW champion who was dominant for a long time until he lost his title. So this fight is for the UFC light heavyweight title which is the most "stacked" division in the UFC

Rampage is the former UFC light heavyweight title holder who lost it to forrest last time out. He then went on an actual rampage driving his monster truck down a pavement and running someone down. Turns out he was massively dehydrated and his coach was royally fking him up and ripping him off for his training and allsorts. He had him living on energy drinks or some crap! Wanderlei is a legend in mma, he was the pride middleweight (LHW in the ufc) champ for aaaaages and beat lots of seriously bad people up very badly (Including Rampage jackson twice, with 2 brutal KO's due to muay thai knees to his head). He lost his last couple of fights in Pride including a KO to mirko cro cop , however cro cop is a heavyweight. Since those arriving in the UFC with the demise of Pride he lost his initial fight to Chuck Liddell then rebounded in spectacular style by knocking out LHW contender Kieth Jardine in 37 seconds.

how rampage vs finished last time out in Pride

This was a great card with some great fights. The best thing was that none of the fights went to the mat for any length of time.

punch

I can't believe how bad Mir beat Nogueira, Nogueira was just not in the fight at all.

I didn't want Evans to win but the guy has serious KO power there is no doubt, so at least he is exciting to watch.

Rampage got revenge with that KO over Silva, it was almost as brutal as when Silva did it to him.

Cheick Kongo looked very good again even though the guy he was fighting was well outclassed. He could be a possible opponent for the winner of Mir / Lesnar I think.

Yes Great card.

My predictions weren't to good! lol

Kongo has stepped up his game recently, Guess he was given a bking after his last fight when Joe Rogan interviewed him, said 'I want tetle' and walked off!
Rampage was bang on the button against Silva, didn't see the uppercut coming at all.
Mir looked in awesome shape. Says a lot for him in that nobody (fedor included) has finished Big Nog. Going to be an awesome rematch against Lesnar. Wonder when that will be.
I expected the evans fight to be either T/KO win to evans or decision to Forrest. Forrest won the first two rounds until Evans stopped him. Good fight although not the back and forth war was expecting.

Does make you wonder now what happens with titles.

I guess in heavyweight after mir/lesnar it will be Kongo or Carwin, Nobody else is standout in that division.
In Light heavyweight who will be next. Griffin should NOT get an immediate rematch (neither Chuck or Rampage have after losing title) but the division is that stacked who will be next up for No1 contender? Can only think either Thiago Silva or Lyoto snooze-fest Machida.....

only after the pride refs stood them up for no good reason, Pride was good to watch as a spectacle but horribly corrupt as an promotion. Good for 'page getting revenge on the roided up nutter. even chuck knows that wandy is a nobody in mma now without his juice and his win over him is now worthless.

Dunno. I wouldn't say he is nobody in mma. still a huge record with over 30 fights. He is only 32. still time to improve. his victory over Jardine showed how devastating he can be. Rampage is a huge fighter with huge strength for 205, with a clean unseen uppercut hit Wandi on the button and knocked him clean out. That would of knocked anybody out!
