I need a new racket!

Seen a few Yonex ones with big discounts, and even a few at almost half price. I'm guessing because they are old models that are being replaced soon?

Can anyone point me in the direction of any decent websites?

Don't really know what sort of racket I need, I just want one that is as light as possible smile

Cheers for any help!

I've just upgraded to a Yonex Arcsaber 7.

Very light, requires some getting used to, but highly recommended.

Try this site
http://www.milletsports.co.uk/badminton/index.php

i'm sure you'll find what you need biggrin

Ahhh, Cheers!

I tried that site earlier, but I clicked on the top Yonex link that only had one racket in. I thought that was all they had banghead

Have you bought from that website?

I'm assuming the rackets come strung and with a case?

Cheers!

Lovely!

Gunna do a bit of research on the Yonex website, then order one next week hopefully!

That Nanospeed 9000X is looking rather tempting at the moment biggrin

I'm a Carlton man myself and always buy from www.ebadminton.com (which I think re-directs you to www.sportdiscounts.com or summat similar). They always seem to have some very good deals on ie 2 top-end rackets for £120, re-strung to your chosen tension.

You should be picking up some, seeing what they feel like. And are you at the level where you can notice the difference between 90g and 83g to warrant paying the extra?

Take into account flex/weight distribution etc, and even a heavier racket can 'feel' lighter than a counterpart on paper.

I've not played in a while, so whichever I buy I should get used to.

Without spending silly money, it looks like the lightest rackets are all around 89g.

might pop to a local stockist tomorrow to see them before I buy, I doubt they'll be able to match the online prices, though.

If you've not played for a while I would not buy the lightest racquet you can - being in a similar position a couple of years ago (ie. not having played for 8 years) I picked up an ultra-light carlton thing and could not get the timing right to generate any decent power whatsover compared to my very old heavy Yonex (Carbonex 15) from the mid-90s.

Having said that I do favour 2/3U head-heavy racquets and it is a matter of personal preference.

If you're specifically looking for Yonex, Central Sports (www.centralsports.co.uk) are good. I am now using SOTX racquets mainly because I don't get on with Yonex - if you prefer head-heavy racquets (ALL Yonex are head-light...) then I would look at them, specifically the Woven 7i (http://www.ibuysports.com/Woven7.html) which I use interchangeably with the slightly more even balanced Woven 8A. The Woven 7 works out around £60.

I played with my mate's rackets the other day.

one was an older, heavier racket and the other was a newer, lighter one.

I got on a lot better with the lighter one, so decided to go for a light racket.

The Nanospeed range seem to be good all rounder type rackets.

I'll see how I get on with the Nanospeed 9000x.

Cheers for the help + advice!!

If you've not played for a while then unless you've got money to burn i would say don't waste it on an expensive racquet as you're not going to notice any difference. A £50 racquet is just as good as a so called top of the range one.

In reality the strings are much more important than the frame as long as the frame is a good fit for your playing style. Most of our club players with the very expensive racquets are not the best wink Pretty much all of the county guys at our place use cheaper models.

Oh, i agree completely.
An expensive racquet doesn't
make you a better player, but you may have missed my wink after beginner, aimed at the OP biggrin

biggrin

I do tend to have a habit of buying expensive stuff when it comes to things like this! I just sorta assume they will last longer, and won't get out dated so quick.

The plan is to keep the racket for a long time, and just get it re-strung as needed.

I used to play 2-3 times a week, so I'm not a complete noob! Just a bit rusty wink

Gunna go to the local Yonex stockist and see what they have, if nothing takes my fancy, I'll probably order the NS9000x.

With that particular racquet I would definitely want to try it first as it's rather extreme - it's very stiff and IME has a sweetspot the size of a 5p coin wink

Seriously though, my local badminton shop will let you try racquets for a couple of weeks (subject to leaving a deposit naturally!) - see if your local Yonex place will let you do that with the 9000x. For the price of those things I wouldn't want to buy sight unseen.

Only a very small percentage of players will ever feel the benefit of the Yonex NS range. It is a difficult racket to come to terms with. Bought one, used it 3 matches and gave it up as a bad job.

hmmmmmmm!

Ended up leaving it too late today to get to the shop, which almost seems like a good thing now!

Gunna be going tomorrow morning instead.

God knows what I'm going to get now biggrin

Bought an Amortec 150! Apparantly, it's an easy racket to use biggrin

http://www.yonex.co.uk/Badminton/Product.aspx?Prod...

I'll see how I get one with that one. As I said, I don't really know what sort of racket I need, hopefully this one will give me some sort of idea.

Was only £45, so not the end of the world if I don't get on with it!

Thanks for all the help!!
