So can the power of a PH poll predict who will win (I have a suspicion votes may go towards a certain young World Champion racing driver on here)?

Is there anyone else that should have been included?

I would think Hamilton will win it by a significant margin, every other British F1 world champion has won Sports Personality so looks like a safe bet.

If it is truly to be based on personality, to be frank I can't see Andy Murray winning it.

I voted for Adlington as I have no idea what 'personality' any of the others possess.

Personality is the wrong word isn't it. So many sports stars have won it with no personality what so ever. One of our Olympic stars should win it but you can garantee Lewis will win it, thing is if he goes on to be half as good as Schumacher thats when he should win it give him a few years.

I think Hamilton will win it but my vote will go to Chris Hoy.

Hamilton may have won a world championship. Chris Hoy effectively won three. Sprint, team sprint and keirin would be like Hamilton winning the F1 World Championship, Le Mans and the Indy 500 all in the same year.

If he doesn't win, then certainly the GB Olympic cycling team should win team of the year.

Chris Hoy seemed like a top bloke in all the interviews, something just stops me voting for Hamilton he seems like a bit of an arse to be honest.

if there is any justice Chris Hoy should win it by a mile, for the last six years he has been at the top of his game, from the 2002 commonwealth games victories he has been an integral part of the british track cycling success. SPOTY should be about what they have done for the sport and leaving a legacy, Hamilton hasnt done that yet. He is a great bloke and will deserve it in the future but not in light of our success in this Olympic year.

IMO both Rebecca Adlington & Chris Hoy have shown the best "personalities" and have been truely humble about their achievments while inspiring others and being seen as role models, but I do think Hamilton will get it.

I also thought that the little dwarf paralympic 13 year old that got the 2 swimming golds deserved atleast a nomination simply because of the maturity she showed and her sheer determination & achievement. But then spotted that she is actually nominated as the young personality along with some tennis child and the diving kid.

Oh and I hope Chris Hoy wins it.

Rebecca Adlington - Last gold in the pool for a woman was 1960

Brits are frequently the F1 champ, so I can't see why Hamilton should win.

Voted for Adlington (swimming girl) for three reasons.
1.) Because she deserves it.
2.) The sport doesn't get enough recognition and would benefit from a little more exposure.
3.) Hamilton has turned into a complete cock this year. Not as far as talent is concerned but within his lifestyle and his attitude. Last year I would have voted for him. This year the move to Switzerland, pop "singer" girlfriend, sgging off Kimi etc as really clouded my opinion of him. I'm sure that will bother him a great deal as he counts his fortune but he isn't Senna yet and little humility might not go amiss.

Yeah okay maybe a tiny bit jealous but at least I admit it.

He'll win it anyway because the vote is fixed and the beeb will want to remind everyone that they have paid a fortune for the TV rights.

i purposely avoided this argument to be honest but......! Hoy has access to the best trainnig and coaches in the world but ultimately has to rely on his legs just as much as Hamilton may have the best car, the best engine and the best mechanics, he still has to drive it quicker than the rest of them. He wouldnt be Champion if he trundled round at the back. Fact is we have never seen Hamilton in a duff car, Alonso however, even in the Minardi(?) proved that he was capable.. even in GP2 and F3 Euroseries, Hamilton was with the better (if not best) teams.

For pure excitement though, you would be hard pressed to beat the Individual Pursuit victoty by Hoy and the final laps of the Brazialian GP.
If Hoy doesnt win, it will be pretty unfair, to win three golds in a once-in-four-years event agaisnt a guy wining a title on offer every year doesnt seem right....

Do they have a "young" sports personality of the year, Adlington being only 19 should get that one, dont know if there is a cut off and how old Hamilton is though...

I think Nicole Cooke is an awesome sports person. To win a bike race is incredibly difficult. To have won the World road race and the Olympic road race this year is incredible on top of all her other achievements, not to mention defending her Womens tour de France title in 2007.

I PRAY Hamilton doesnt get it. Yes, he's done well but come on? When faced with the likes of Addlington, Hoy et al, he shouldnt even be in the running!
