Overpriced lifestyle clothing or aspirational brand, the clothing equivalent to BMW, worn (mostly) by tossers.

I like it, and find their stuff is very good when working outdoors as well, as good as other stuff like Colombia etc, if not slightly better as the cut seems to fit me a little better.

Although I did have my North Face beanie on as I drove to work this morning with the roof down in the Porsche, which I guess might fit the description you talk about...

The windproof coats etc maybe worth the money, but £35 for a plain, not the best fitting Tshirt, sod that.

Have one of their ski jackets.

Too expensive and not good enough at what it is sold to do.

Not well thought out for the uses it is intended.

It isn't warm enough, pockets are too small and zips on mine rubbish.

My jacket was free though. Would have hated to pay their recommended price.

Their thermal gear is good. Better than HH and has some kind of silver in it to stop it stinking.

It's a bit of a trendy label, but it seems to function OK.

Cheaper than Macpac though who probably make the best outdoor gear.

Their stuff does last the pace, £145 for my jacket and 6 years later still like new.

So i've got a North Face jacket and used to own a BMW, does that make me a tosser?

11 years ago I bought a North Face Mountain Jacket for work. I still use it regularly today. It's lost some of the colour, and has a few stains, but all the stitching is intact, the zips are all still in perfect order, as are the pockets.

It cost me £300 and has been worth every penny. I also bought a new fleece recently, £150 North Face. I expect to get at least 10 years from that too.

Am I a tosser?

Hmmm.

Nothing wrong with The North Face but the cognoscenti buy Rohan.

Once you've travelled in Rohan stuff you'll never buy anything else.

Just find it over-priced when compared to the likes of Tenson or even Berghaus who use the same fabric suppliers but their kit always seems 25% cheaper and lasts just as long.

They used to market their 'Bags' trousers on the basis they'd roll up to the same size as a can of coke.

Which was useful, if you carried trousers in a cupholder...

EFA wink

There's nothing wrong with TNF equipment. It's just a shame that because it's good stuff and a well established brand, the scallies of this world buy it for the name.

Buy Mountain Equipment if you're not old and want even better stuff... it's British too.

rofl Travelling for two weeks in NZ - two people - hiking gear, smart gear etc. And all had to fit into one bag that went into the boot of a BMW Z3. Packing up small and drying fast whilst being hardwearing and not needing to be ironed? What's not to like?

yes I got a load of Mountain Equipment gear when I climbed Kilimanjaro a few years ago and it's good stuff. I also have a couple of TNF coats too - it's all good quality kit that fits and works well, and isn't so brightly coloured that you look like a hiker when wearing it in town.

Still - nothing like a sweeping generalisation to start the morning! hehe

North Face make some excellent gear, got a nice 'Ice Jacket' down filled Parka, gore-tex hiking boots and long sleeve windsheet for running/mountain biking.

Can't fault the quality of the gear and durability, boots have been around the best scrambles in Snowdonia and look like new.

I have noticed the brand much more of late, especially as an urban accessory but nothing wrong with that. You tend to get what you pay for with outdoor gear.

I have a pair of their snow boots and they are very good.

I think we can safely ignore the OP's views, given that he posted that lame "offensive email" thread.
