Ponting can talk a good game (infering that Ganguly, Tendulkar and Dravid are too old) but if you look at the Aussie side it isn't a patch on what it was two years ago - even a year ago.

Symonds out for disciplinary reasons, Tait in rehab, no spinner of any note (one went home, another got carted round the park last week) so contrary to what I thought a couple of years ago (after the last Ashes) you were right Unrep - they're in pieces ...

Awaits our favourite Aussie ...

Aussies off to a steady start. Ponting 110no out of 194-2. Aussies have no specialist spinner though, only Cameron White who bowls a bit of part-time leg-spin I think.

Three part time spinners, Katich, Clarke and White who was selected as the spinner, plus a fourth seamer in Watson.

Not a bad day at the office but still plenty to do.

Of course. Forgot those two. Was just thinking that they may miss the 'proper' spin of a Warne or McGill in the 4th innings particularly and seeing as Indian have picked Kumble and Harbhajan it's unlikely to be a seamers' wicket. Having said that, Kumble and Harbhajan bowled 52 overs between them today and only took 1 wicket between them.

Tremendous day three for the Indians - lets hope they can polish the Aussies off after setting them a ridiculous target ...

Tendulkar played like a god in his innings - nothing new there then -

Bloody hell - we may actually LOSE a test match. Not been watching, but looks like we've been outplayed in this one. Should set the series up nicely. Shame Warne won't come out of retirement - I expect he'd be useful in this series.

The Aussies are not weak - it were the Indians that were extra special over the 5 days...

The next one should be good with the aussies going out to prove they are still the best and the Indians going all out to prove that this was not a one-off...

Great cricket! biggrin

Played like st, arse kicked, just getting the bad one out of the system before heading off to thrash the poms again.

Maybe lose the remainder of the series to really put them in the right frame of mind.

India dominate day 2. Gambhir and Laxman make double-hundreds. Australia don't lose any wickets in reply, but it's safe to say they are a long way from levelling the series.

Sadly this has been glossed over by most of the media - due to the wkfest that is the Stanford 20/20. I think we're starting to witness the decline in Aussie domination.

I'm not sure that I agree entirely but certainly heading into a bit of a trough, the loss of two players of McGrath and Warne's ability and presence would set any side back quite a bit.

Another point is that very few countries go to India and walk away with the series or even a test so together with the inexperience and four players returning from injury doesn't help.

No excuses, to this point we have been outplayed by some margin.

Plenty of time to get the house back in order for the ashes though.

Hmm, What do you make of Ricky Ponting's decision to 'rest' arguably your best strike bowler - Brett Lee, over concerns about the over rate...Esp when you take into account they seemed to have a handbag moment on field. Sure, he's not bowled well in India but anyway you slice it, its an odd decision

Conversation went along the lines of.
" you're coming back from a break and haven't returned to your best, when our line or length is not right we're getting belted and I want to take the pace right off the ball so that they have to do the work. I'll bring yo on later once we tied them down for a bit"

Or it could have been.
" You're bowling st, get back out to the fence and think about it for a while "

India comfortably win the series 2-0 - is this the end of the Australian Dominance??

Can't understand why Ponting used his part time bowlers so much even if they were so behind the over rate he should have been concentrating on the kill!

Well done India - Now looking forward to England v India

Dunno champ... might be a long few weeks....

England all out for 98 in the warm up 20/20 - doesn't make up for the 2-0 series loss (shame on you Punter!) but seeing the soapdodgers belted by some Indian, thrown together, girls U14's side always helps numb the pain wink
(even if it is in the lowest form of the game)

It was a 50 over match - which makes England's performance even worse
