Saw Mourinho say he was the best he has ever seen on ITV the other day. I, for one, agree. Best striker ive ever seen, had it all. Pace, power, presence, finish - cant think of a more complete striker tbh

Opinions of how he compares, past and present players?

Mind you I also thought Kaboul would be a legend at Spurs smile

I agree, one of the greatest players of all time, and certainly the best of his generation alongside Zidane. Injuries have ruined his career, as well as a love for a burger or 5, but when he was at barca he was unbelievably good, brilliant technique and ball control, excellent off the ball movement and completely lethal finishing.

His ability to beat a man at pace was phenomenal, rolling the ball over his foot, or spinning past people whilst in full sprint is something nobody has ever been able to do better than him imo.

Hmmm....don't want to jump on the bandwagon but have you been watching the Man u Ronaldo show for the past 12 months....not after any great debate but do enjoy watching him even though he's a bit of a cock! and yes I'm even a Man Ure supporter!

Yes I have, and I'd still say Ronaldo was a much, much better player with the ball at his feet. His close control is incredible, better than Messi's, and a lot better than Ronaldo, all are brilliant dribblers, but Ronaldo's ability to beat a man or 5 isn't something I'm old enough to have seen in any other player.

His record speaks for itself - you don't score that many goals, in that many world cup finals without being something a bit extra special.

Just a shame injuries have limited his appearances over the past few years.

(Also a shame the tubby git likes his food & drink so much!!)

scratchchin...hmmm...Are you vivaronaldo in disguise?

Please get a sheet of A4.
Draw a line down the middle of it.
Write "Fatty" at the top of one column and "Prancing Horse" at the top of the other.
Begin listing their achievements to date below their names in each column.

When the Ballerina's acheivements list is as long as the Burger Kings come back and prod me with a sharp stick - like so

I've always thought Ronaldo was the best striker as far back as I remember (I''m only 23), so Pele must have been something amazing to be regarded as better.

The way Ronaldo could accelerate from standstill to full speed was awesome, and the way he used to go around the goalkeeper everytime in a one-on-one situation. Great stuff!

Yes I am a Manc supporter, but can always take both sides of the story....based on achievements to date I wholeheartedly agree.....but am hopeful (while he's at Man U anyway evil) that he can continue and improve....

Firstly, Lionel Messi has far better control of the ball compared to C. Ronaldo, Ronaldo has messi on pace, but everything else, Messi imo is better at (personally won't put Kaka in there, his probably 3rd in ranking as best current attacking players in the world).

Secondly, the debate on a good player compared to a great player that will be remembered for generations to come. Imo, the current crop of players are all good players, the only way to stand out and be remembered would be to perform for your respective national teams, none of the current wannabe great players have yet stood out at a world cup, then and only then will they be considered a great of the game. The last great player to grace the field was Zidane, who was instrumental in the 98' world cup and almost single-handedly won them the 2006 world cup (imo, he made the mother of all grand exits with what he did in the final bow.

Legend.

Players like Rooney/Gerrard/Lamps/ won't be remembered for anything in a generation.

Using that criteria Maradonna's performance in the '86 World Cup surely elevates him to the top of the tree or at least just behind Pele ('62 & '70).

If he had not played on that injury he would have had a more prolific career..

I agree that Messi has some unreal ball control, and is probably the best all round player in the world..

C. Ronaldo can change direction, and accelerate better than any other player imo and obviously scored a LOT of goals..

This season will see if he is still on form..

Fat Ronaldo was good though, very good and as you say his finishing was something to admire.. But then Zidane was majestic at times too...

Don't see how Messi is a more all round player than C. Ronaldo, in fact, he's far less rounded as a player. Both are excellent, pacey wingers with sublime dribbling skills, only one is a big physical presence and awesome in the air, and takes an excellent free kick...

True, Ronaldo needs to get some practice in on those areas and he may be able to compete.
