It went to Setanta because the people running the sport:
a) Don't care about "ordinary" people watching
b) Are too stupid and greedy to realise that it will lead to a decline in interest in the national team

There is not even a terrestrial highlight package available.

If you have a satellite dish pointed at the correct satellite (Astra 1H @ 19.2E) you could have watched Saturdays game for free from the German channel Anixe (they also had it in HD), tonight's game is free to air on the German ZDF channel.

What's worse is the actual quality of Setanta coverage. I subscribed at the start of this season to get the extra Prem games - but didn't realise they were showing the England games as well.

Now, all of my Sky channels are perfect - including the HD channels - but Setanta breaks up all the time. Apparently, after much research and finding out the info on avforums - if you have a signal strength of less than 60% it can do this. My signal strength is about 40% - note - this does not affect any of my Sky channels apart from Setanta.

I'll be cancelling as soon as I can be bothered to write to them (yes, that's right, to cancel you have to send them a letter).

They are a fking joke - AVOID.

Cancelling Setanta can be a bit of a nightmare - beware.

Nothing to do with SKY. Setanta are an Irish outfit.

No idea.

They had the rugby world cup rights for America. I was in Indy for the final and was desperate to see it. The profiteering bds charged bars $500 to show the game (using the ITV feed and commentary and with no build up - the transmission literally started with the kick off). As a result only 1 bar in the city had it on, fortunately it was a huge place and we watched it with loads of Brits, Aussies, Boks and American rugby players.

ITV news have just said that Setanta have agreed to unscramble the signal for the highlights program tonight, so there is a chance to watch the highlights at least.

Whilst I agree matches involving the National side should be on the BBC. I think criticism of Setanta is unfair. Setanta are a new(ish) company who have only just got the rights to show football in the last 12 months and they are developing, it's no different to when Sky got the Premier League football in 1992, they all have to start somewhere.

I subscribe to Setanta because I get it for a pittance from Virgin. I think they offer a good mix of football; Premier League, SPL, Blue Square Premier, Ligue 1, Bundesliga and now the international games and they will also be showing the FA Cup. I think they offer great value for football addicts such as myself, where as SKy is just too expensive.

If I want to watch a match on Sky I go to the pub which is at the corner of my street.

Looks like they're backing down over the subscription farce.
