first of all, i have to point out i am a liverpool fan and always will be, but im getting a wee bit dissolusioned.

in keane and kuyt we have 30m worth of strikers playing on the wing, and a virtual nobody playing upfront. same last time out with benayoun playing out of position.

my general question to all (both lfc fans and not) is, does benitez actually know what he is doing, or hanging on to his job by the slightest of threads??

i personally think if we win nothing this season he should go.

You just beat me to it! I think Rafa has done well but now needs to change. Give him this season, and if no improvement in the league ta ta. Only trouble is Torres etc will probably leave as well. He has spent a lot of money on very average players. Keane is good but not worth £20m. Are B'youn and Kuyt sh*****g him? Both very poor and as for Ngog - enuff said. Why isn't Babel playing, why is Alonso playing as holding midfielder, when Gerrard is injured. Surely Masher should play there. Dossena and Abeloa two very average full backs. I'm very disallusioned with it all at the mo.

Carragher is awful and only gets praise as he throws himself into stupid tackles. Slow, dirty and easily turned.

Only god knows how you fluked your way to that Champions League, still you cant live in the past and you wont be winning anything for a while with the fat spanish waiter in charge.

In Rafa we trust.

We've played poorly so far this season and today was probably the worst in terms of formation. God knows why Keane was playing LW - I think we showed Villa too much respect. Playing Lucas as LM is surely not the answer, whatever the question is. We are crying out for width but Pennant can't even make the bench - why?

We have total class through the spine of the team - Reina, Carra, Mash, Stevie, Torres and to a certain extent Keane. I really rate Agger but Skrtel seems to be keeping him out of the team - I don't know why, he looks crap to me. I don't rate Arbeloa or Aurelio, and while its early days Dossena doesn't look much cop either. Kuyt works hard but needs more end product and is neither a winger or a striker really. Babel seems alright but isn't getting game time.

It's worth reflecting though that Fergie was on the verge of the sack after doing nothing in his first few years at United - but they persisted and he came good. He's such a top bloke is Rafa, total class act, but at the end of the day we need to see performances and results on the pitch - and that's not happening at the moment. He's been trading on Istanbul and to a certain extent Athens for at least 12 months now and if we're not challenging the top 2 come Easter then he'll be off I think. The board haven't helped though - fk knows what is going on behind the scenes.

Bad times.

I honestly dont think Rafa knows what he is doing, he keeps signing ste though, that Espanyol winger couldnt even make it at City yet you are going to spend £10 million on him.

10 years ago you might have challenged for the title with the team you have now, but the game has moved on so much. I would honestly say that a very minimum you need 6 more very good players to even think about geuinely challenging for the title.

The Waiters obsession with buying spanish is costing you dearly.

Totally agree! That's twice in a week i've watched our team play shockingly bad, almost as though they're not only devoid of ideas going forward, but there's no creativity, no width and they really do look like a team with players playing all out of position!

Yes all the board problems don't help - and god knows what's really going on or what's going to happen next, but Benitez has still spent money this summer and it looks like we've gone backwards!!!

Keane was never worth 20m!, i don't think Barry was worth 18m either, but by god if he'd helped the team in anyway, it might have been better spend on him than Keane - especially when Benitez is going to play Keane LW like today!

Kujt works his socks off every game and i don't think he'd ever be a 20 goal a season striker even if he played in the right position but to keep playing him out of position on the right is crazy! It showed on wednesday that soon as he moved him forward, he posed a threat and managed to nick the goal at the end.

Riera - Got to agree with viva on this - he was crap at Man city a couple of years ago, i'm not sure how his experiences at Espanyol and Real Mallorca since have made him into the left winger we really need.

Totally agree that Agger should be playing with Carragher - Skyrtel (sp) very prone to diving in early, though not that our defence is really the problem.

Lucas - what a waste of space he is!, especially for a so called Brazilian!

Pennant - done ok, but he's not the world class winger we need - rumoured to be going to Stoke, maybe he can take Voronin with him!

Babel - Got great pace and when he does put a good ball in the box it's a danger - see kujts goal wed night, but he was awful for every other minute he played then and that's probably why he didn't play today, but he needs confidence which he's only going to get from playing! Why the hell he wasn't brought on to play LW and Keane pushed forward when Torres went off, only God knows!

We've been Crying out for 2 world class wingers and a striker to play with Torres. What's he done!? - Spent 20m on Keane who he then plays on the left, uses Kujt on the right and is looking at a Man City reject probably to play down the middle!

Agreed that Benitez has been riding on the european cup sucess and is clearly showing he can't make progress in the premiership. If the team carry on its going to be another disappointing season no matter what's going on in the board room.

I'd agree with all of that - specially your call on the subs today - my thoughts exactly. Quite why he chose to leave Keane out left and bring on Ngog I will never know.

I understand what the OP is saying, and the signs arent that great, but we're only 3 games in, 3rd in league if Man Ure win tonight and not leaking goals.

There are some positives and i think perhaps we should give it a bit of time.

If Keane scores more than 12-14 goals this season he wont be regarded as a failure. So to call it now is a bit rash.

Back to the OP, this is the second game running where I fell asleep.
Even I'm starting to dispair now.
How can you spend £20m on a striker and then replace him with Benayoun, leaving yourself with an unexperienced kid up front on his own. Mind boggling decision imo.

Did Saha make it a Newcastle ? How about at West Ham ?
Did that stop Fergie spending £12m on him ?
How about Djemba, Djemba ?
How much was Veron ?

My point is, all managers make bad buys sometimes.

The one player I'd love to see at Liverpool is Joe Cole. He has exactly the game we need.

Love it. Liverpool are set to complete their deal for the Espanyol wide man today. I guess all you Reds out there had just better trust that Rafa the Gaffer knows what he is doing. Like bringing on Ngog and not Babel when Torres limps off injured at Villa Park.
