I've never heard it so much and although it does stir the heart...can't we jazz it up a little bit?

How - and more to the point - why? It's a national anthem, not an advertising jingle.

Something else the French got right better than us - the Marseillaise is a top notch anthem for rousing!

They could stretch it out a bit by singing more than one verse :
