Taken from the BBC website:

At-a-glance medals table

Thursday, 14 August 2008 12:30

Rank Country Gold Silver Bronze TOTAL
1 China 22 7 5 34
2 USA 10 9 14 33
3 South Korea 6 7 3 16
4 Italy 6 4 3 13
5 Germany 6 2 3 11
6 Australia 5 4 7 16
7 Japan 5 3 3 11
8 Russia 3 7 3 13
9 France 2 7 6 15
10 Great Britain 2 2 3 7

Does our total medal haul (7) seem a bit low, or are we expecting a glut in the coming days?

Not really - the target the BOA set for this Games was top 8 in the table. Our strongest sports for medals are track cycling, rowing and sailing they haven't started handing out medals in these yet.

Saturday I think is when we are due to have a chance of a few more, mainly rowing.

Addlington is also looking set for Gold in the 800 free, she blitzed the semi in a new Olympic record time.

Shame Emms and thingy just got booted from the badminton mind.

First of many in the velodrome....

Team Sprint Gold for Staff, Hoy and Kenny.

Wiggins is apparently in the form of his life having been breaking records whilst training recently, we should score highly in the individual mens and womens pursuits, the keirin and the team pursuits. if only the kilometre sprint was still in the olympics too...

We've also got 10 boats in the rowing finals and the sailing events are nearing a conclusion with Brits leading the fleets.

Should be a medal glut this weekend from the bikes and boats. Shame we can't say the same about track and field - what a shower!

Not sure she'll have it her own way, the Italian looked very good in her heat and was only 3 seconds slower whilst swimming noticably easier. Would love Rebecca to do it though.

I posted this on the stickied thread:

I said:
5 medals is the UK Athletics target. Remember more countries enter the track and field than any other discipline. It is the most competitive of olympic sports. Yes, it's great that we're doing brilliantly in the track cycling, but how many countries actually enter? Where are the africans for example? Our cyclists should make the most of it before the other countries catch up.

People's expectations of track and field often seems to be somewhat divorced from the reality of the sport.
Hope that gives you a better idea of track and field...
