He seems to be doing quite well in tennis tournaments.

Now into his first final. Maybe he will get a shot at beating Nadal (if he wins)

Why is there no fuss over him like there was with Tim Henman?

Henman came across as a person many could like.

Murray doesnt.

So people only get behind the middle of the roaders with a smile.

Not the successful

Tim Henman was in the top ten for years. He was a world-class player, if a rung below the grand-slam winners. He earned $11,635,542 in prize money alone.

Andy Murray's career is in it's early stages - he was quite a late developer compared to (say) Nadal. He has proven ability to beat top players on big occasions, which bodes well.

IMO, most people in Britain don't really care about tennis in general, only Wimbledon. If it wasn't for Wimbledon, tennis would have the status of cycling, i.e. something obscure and foreign only covered by Eurosport.

OK he isn't, yet. But the point I'm trying to get across was that everyone was behind Tim Henman. Nobody really supports Andy Murray. Just think it's a shame.

I think as mentioned the only time tennis used to come to the British limelight was Wimbledon so we crammed all our support for Tim at this one event, Nowadays we get much more reported on all the other events that tennis players actually attend al year, we didn't get this when Tim was playing. It is ashame because this is how Tim kept his top ten status, this is where players earn their rankings etc. As far as most of us were concerned Tim only ever failed, which is just not true, following Murray more on these smaller events will hopefully show the potential these players have but it may reduce the impact at wimbledon (though I think Murray got a fair bit of support this year!)

Tim actually played Federer 6 times and beat him 3 times. Unfortunately for Tim He did not beat him in the later matches.

might be due to some of the "anti-english" sentiments he has allegedly expressed in the past.... ??

He comes across as ultra dull in comparison to Tim Henman's just dullwink

Anti-English comments (as has been said) will hardly help him get the support of a lot of people.......

IMO, he looks awful (get a haricut)wink

He made a joke, get over it! Anyway not supporting the English football team does not make you anti English, I was born in England and would not support the English football team, not because I am in any way anti English but because I don't want it rammed down my throat for the next 100 years if they actually win anything.

He's playing Djokovic today as the Serb beat Nadal in the semi-final last night in straight sets.

I went to school with Tim Henman (I'm two years older) and he was one of a group of Slater tennis scholars at Reed's School in Cobham. Henman was never the best tennis player, just the one who applied himself the most. The best talent by far was Jamie Delgado who won the Orange Bowl as a 14 year old - just like Aggassi & Sampras did when they were kids. As a result he got his first sponsorship deals, it all went to his head and his carrer was FUBAR after that.

Murray has undoubtably got huge talent, but he comes over on the arrogant side of overconfidence for me.

Being arrogant and a winner is ok by me - he looked really good last night mixing it up brilliantly.

Will be a great final later whatever.

I think hard courts are the only surface where he stands a chance of winning consistently.

Will be an interesting final. Murrays playing well and has beaten Djokovic only last week in the Toronto masters.

US Open is only a few weeks away, so it'll be a good test and preperation for that.
