Following on from the will he wont he go, dont give a toss thread, the only reason 'The Slave' appears to be leaving is of course better contract deals or to put it bluntly ..... more money

Would salary capping work in the EPL? Say you capped it at some paltry sum like 50k a week, i know some clubs have a limit but if every one was on the same would it be a happier playground or would all the top players get the hump and go/return abroad ?

Would just mean people like the Glazer's would make an obscene amount of money. (Assuming the cap was applied worldwide). Leave things to the free markets.

Unfortunatly a non starter, for so many reasons.

I'd love to see a salary cap in the Prem with a rule that the Eng team can only be picked from English players playing in the EPL. Its just a non starter

You know I wouldn't care. I rather see a competitive league than the worlds best players.

We already have a pretty good idea of the finishing order of next season and it's got nothing to do with the managers or coaches just the amount of money each club has to spend.

We have a pretty good idea who will finish top in Spain, Germany, Greece, Turkey, France and Italy as well. It's a myth that before the influx of foreign players our league was open and competitive. We still had a big four, they were just slightly different than they are now

Maybe not, but the Champions will come from a group of 2-4 clubs

Turkey - Fenerbache or Galatasary

France - Lyon

Greece Panathanaikos or Olympiakos

Scotland - Rangers or Celtic

HTH

It's a myth that league standard has any bearing on competitiveness.

There is a salary cap in the Aussie NRL and they are losing top homegrown players in their prime like a sinking ship taking on water! The clubs simply cannot compete in terms of attracting and retaining players when compared to the English Super League or French rugby union. It would be daft to create a similar problem for the EPL!

You can take Arsenal and Liverpool out of the running IMO.

Salary capping is a good idea but it will never happen. A forward who bangs in 25 goals in a season has always been worth significantly more than a keeper who keeps out that vital goal against the team.

If say, all team players were paid a capped salary, forwards can prove their worth by earning bonuses for goals and assists while defenders and keepers can earn for clean sheets or collective win bonuses.

Lower salaries + performance bonuses? I wonder how many of 'em kiss the badge on their shirts...

Think they have as much chance as, say, Roma or Juventus. Not near the 2 favourites, but still possible depending on signings. If Liverpool only signed Silva and Villa they'd have an excellent chance.
