I've been getting some quite nasty joint pains as a result of a few years of kickboxing. I have been taking Glucosamine plsu Pure Cod Liver Oil for some months now, but doesn't seem to be having much effect.

Anyone take anything which helps with pains in their joints ?

Would appreciate some advice as i had to stop 10 mins early this morning as a result of the pain

Worst 'this is the worst post ever' post.

It's supposed to be amusing!

To the O/P, take something called http://www.groovyfood.co.uk/thingswemake/cooloil.html. It does seem to work and has some very good feedback/reviews.

You're not warming-up/warming-down properly?

I have joint clicks all over my body, I've done karate for 21 years on and off, my brother has been training hard for 24 years and his joint are worse than mine.

Save yourself some time - skip to the last 4 or 5 pages.

I would be interested in knowing if there is anything better than cod liver oil out there..

Since starting boxing a few weeks ago my wristshave developed a pain, which I had before when I would bench press but its worse now..

Ahhh, that does make it more amusing! biggrin

Sorry, whenever I see a football thread I normally always avoid it for a couple of reasons but the main reasons are that I hate watching it (unless it's worldcup/euro) although I enjoy playing it or it all descends into one big arguement. hehe

okgo, in what circumstances are you boxing? Is this something you are teaching yourself or are you being observed/supervised? Make sure you have decent handwraps on and make sure they are on properly.

Alot of people I have seen with wrist/hand injuries is normally due to a combination of poor punching technique and not giving the wrists enough support.

I'm not suggesting you do have poor technique by the way. smile

I am doing it myself really, I have been down to the boxing club a few times. But mostly in the garage.

I have always had a good punch with the right arm, and I still do. The left jab has got pretty good, but for the life of me I cant do left hooks anywhere near as good as the right.. and when I do I end up mistting sometimes which hurts lol

I dont wear wraps.. just 12 oz gloves.. why the wraps? And tbh the ache was there before when I was bench pressing so its probably from that and the boxing has not done it any favours..

This link describes it pretty well, http://www.helium.com/items/256138-why-boxers-wear...

As for the injury, you have probably just aggrevated it abit. Maybe lay off of the punch bag for awhile?

I managed to injure my wrist whilst demonstrating with my sensei's and I still don't know to this day what I have done. There was a huge 'twang' noise and I had immediate pins and needles in my hand but it died down very quickly. Since then I have been able to spar/hit the bag and I'm fine but if I attempt pull ups or put too much pressure on the wrist then it does cause me discomfort.

Wear wraps, seriously, why do you think all boxers wear them?

They will help keep your wrist straight.

when you hook is your hand vertical or horizontal?

They may keep one's wrists straight but it also weakens them. If one sprains ones wrist and it gets put in a splint, one needs physio afterwards to regain the strength.

My reckoning on this is do wrist strengthening exercises before bench pressing heavy weights. Wank more!

There a reason my right wrist is fine hehe

I dont get it because my arms are not weak, and it doesnt hurt when deadlifting. I was deadlifting 190kg last night and my wrists were fine.

I hook with a vertical fist..This feels fine with my right hand and I am able to get some good power.. but the left just feels weak and makes st contact..

It's not about strength mate, it's about landing the hook correctly.

Also if you are orthodox left foot forward your left hook will never be quite as powerful as your right, even if it's coming after a right cross or hook.
