same as football, essentially you're backing a horse to lose the race.
it has had a lot of publicity with certain members of the sporting fsternity saying it promotes insider betting etc. I take the view that backing a horse to win is essentially opposing al the other horses - i.e indirectly backing them to lose.
useful tip: never EVER lay a horse in running (in play betting) unless you are watching the race!
also the feeds you watch on channel 4. at the races etc are 10-15 seconds behind live feeds, so the shrewd professional punters clean up on laying horses particularly on jump races and sprint races on the flatit has had a lot of publicity with certain members of the sporting fsternity saying it promotes insider betting etc. I take the view that backing a horse to win is essentially opposing al the other horses - i.e indirectly backing them to lose.

Do any of you guys use betfair or a similar laying system?
I understand the principle of laying and backing in Football and other 3 outcome sports but how does the lay system work with horse racing?
Sorry - to answer the OP's question, laying a horse in a race is equivalent to betting on each of all the others to win. I understand the principle of laying and backing in Football and other 3 outcome sports but how does the lay system work with horse racing?
With careful consideration and good timing, opportunities can arise as odds to change to back a horse, and then lay it, so that you are locked into a GUARANTEED (small) profit. Have a read on "sports arbitrage" for explanations on this - and if you don't understand it, don't do it!!
