That cannot be right. Surely from the English players in the premier league we can make a team of 20 world class footballers yet we cannot qualify for the Euro 08.

Thread kind of already running on this.

What about "foreign managers" hurting England as a question. How many Premier League club managers are actually English?

No we can't.

English players at 'top' clubs are generally the workhorses for their more skillfull foreign collegues.

There are very few English flair players who are actually good enough to be considered for the England team, let alone 'world class'.

From the top of my head I can only think of three regular members of the england squad who have technical ability of their main asset, rather than pace or strength of understanding of the game (and they are Rooney, J Cole and Bentley).

IMO that is how the Premier League is hurting the England team. As far as the PL is concerned England never needs to develop flair players, as long as there are enough water carriers to go around we can buy in foreigners to do the fancy bit. Even if FIFA bring in the minimum quotas of homegrown players this needn't change.

It's always someone else's fault.

How do you mean?

This is about the chairman of the Premier League admitting that the PL hurts the England team. Sounds more like accepting some blame than trying to blame someone else.

One of the stated aims of the PL when it was created was to improve the England team. Since then, English clubs are becoming dominant in Europe but the England team is treading water at best.

But why have Scotland and Wales improved (by their standards anyway)?

In most sports, training with and competing against the best in the world brings everyone on, but not in football it would seem. Rather than blaming the better players for that, perhaps those players not improving should look at themselves and work out why they aren't improving.

IMO for a while now the England team have been a group of individuals, not a team. There appears to be an attitude of club before country which (again IMO) is wrong.
