Sandee's alright and not too dear. I prefer their bag gloves to any other.

Your best bet is Sport & Soccer, or whatever they're called this week! I got a pair of hand wraps for £2.50 and they have a reasonable selection of gloves. Tip: go for leather, vinyl ones just won't last and the heavier the gloves the better the workout: you can hit harder and you'll get more of a workout.

As for a bag, just make sure you've got the space and an understanding neighbour!

Aye, if you want to do it seriously you need to pay for a decent pair of gloves, otherwise all you'll do is knacker your hands.

Just make sure you get a decent bag rather that one of those rubbish ones in Argos, go online to a specialist boxing website to buy one, my old boxing club had McGuirk ones that were rock hard. You need the bag to be solid and heavy so it doesnt swing all over the place.

Another thing is try not to stand too close to the bag, stand at roughly arms length so you connect with the bag at full reach, this stops the bag swinging (poor form!!).

Gloves are not really that important, any ones will do, just make sure you wear hand wraps, again £3 from the specialists and worth every penny, stops your hand and wrists snapping back.

Train in rounds, 3 min on, 30 secs off. Get mental for the last 20 secs of each round. Enjoy smile

Hmmm, IMO gloves are very important.

And get both, bag gloves and boxing gloves.

Gloves are the most important part!

You could always train without gloves, but after having done a few bare-knuckle heavy bag sessions don't get upset when you can't grip your spoon in the mornings!

I would go for heavier gloves: more protection and a harder workout. Concentrate on good form first, speed and accuracy second and power last.

Lastly, cheap equipment has always been a false economy: better to save up and get the stuff that lasts ten years than buy a load of junk now that needs replacing at Christmas!

PS - Don't forget the Rocky 4 soundtrack!

Cheers,

I'd agree - but so are the wraps. I have loads of gloves including bag mitts from different suppliers, mma gloves and 16oz gloves for sparring and bag work.

For years I was in too big a hurry to wrap my hands for bag work at home and very much regret it. My knuckle is f'd and now it doesn't matter which gloves I use as even a minute or two is bad!!!

I was in this situation the other day.

I went to the local gym shop, bought a 5ft bbe bag for 60 quid. Was not the best one. I wanted the mega lonsdale one that weighed 70kg but I thought it would pull the garage down hehe

I also bought some bbe gloves 12 oz, strapped it to the beam and beat the st out of it. My right hook and both jabs have gotten pretty good in the two weeks I have had this and been going to the boxing club. Just cant sort out my left hook without hitting dodgy and bending the wrist..
