Thought i'd open a new thread, as it's an interesting topic, and shouldn't be undermined by the Paul Scholes thread.

He's pretty god damn successful, who'd want to fill his shoes? I like others would not be surprised to see him step down if United win the Champions League, but who will take on such a massive job?

I think, all IMO of course, that the reason Jose Mourinho hasn't taken another job yet, is because he's waiting for the United job. He's capable of dealing with the big names, he's definately a proven success, and I think, IIRC, he and Sir Alex are in touch and remain friends, this would play a big part, as I think Sir Alex would want to help a successor.

Big conspiracy I know, but you can't help but think....

So my top choice is Jose Mourinho.

Whadya rekon?

I've said before that I think Mourinho is destined for Liverpool when Rafa walks. For United I reckon Fergie will stay at least one more season then Keano will take control with Fergies help. Maybe Brian Kidd will return as assistant manager?

If Utd win the league and champions league, he'll have to walk as that's the highest note he could leave on...

Don't think Maureen will get the job.

It's gonna be one of the old boys, and there's plenty of them to pick from. How about Steve Coppell as an outside bet?

fergie will stay for a few years longer, this could be a "golden age" team and I think he will want to see it a bit further, also if we win premiership this year - thats 17, win one more and we have equalled liverpool (with 18), fergie would love to be the manager who overhauls the scouse.

there will be thousands of reds, pissed of their heads, for United is going to Moscoowww!!!

Destined for greatness, IF he chooses to go for it. Either Manyoo or England...I hope the latter.

If an Utd were to go for an old boy then it should definitely be Mark Hughes, he's prven himself to be tactically astute and a great man-manager, given a decent budget he could be great.

Personally I don't get why it should be an ex-player. Mourinho would be the obvious choice if he happened to be available, it's a bit of a no-brainer really! If not, then the second best man for the job is Moyes, realy can't describe how brilliant he's been for Everton, similar situation to Hughes, and found similarly great bargains because of a lack of money, only he's done even better.

Quiroz is getting it anyway.

Tactically limited, too much long ball to big man up front.

Why on earth would a manager of his quality go to Livercrud? Won't he be the next Barcelona manager? I don't think O'Neil will ever be the United manager, Hughes will follow but I have the feeling they will go through a few different managers before it settles down into a long-term appointment.

I'm United through and through but it has to be said that LFC are the most successful club in English history. Their European record is and has been second to none in English history. Their fans are up there with United and desperately want to end their Championship woes. What better challenge for Mourinho?

Fairly reliable contact of mine reckons that Thaksin is waiting on an answer from Jose before deciding for sure whether Sven is to go or stay hence the delay in an announcement on Sven's future.
Can't see it to be honest but wait & see he hasn't been wrong yet with several coups on transfers etc the only one that hasn't come off was Anelka's return which it now transpires was all agreed until Chelsea came in with late bid due to Drogba injury.

I have to admit, it was a bit tongue in cheek. I really dont' like supporting Liverpool, but I do respect them. I also had the day off yesterday and found ITV4 playing re-runs of the 'Big Match Live' with Spurs 'v' Liverpool. It was fantastic to see Daglish, Rush, Souness, Lawro, Hansen etc........All household names and great to remember them when they were in their prime.

TBH, would it not be a good idea to get a Brit in the Pool job? Perhaps O'Neil could go, or could Daglish do a Keegan and come back into managent? Anyway, back on topic, as I said before I am sure it will be Hughes.

Alas there isn't. I also agree that Hughes is a shoe-in for about 3 years time when S'ralex finally retires, unless Keane does something absolutely spectacular in the meantime.

Also - I can't ever see Mourinho at Liverpool. Too much bad history there.
