Best Opposing Footy Fans?
Discussion
I would never nominate any of the "top 4" as a lot of their support is simply due to years of success. Anybody can follow them ("True Blue Gunner Gooner" , nothing against Arsenal, but I'd never call them the best fans). What I'm talking about is fans that follow their team through bad times. Sing when they are losing. Turn up away in large numbers. Sing funny songs and stay good natured (well, maybe not always).
Over the years, the best supported teams I have seen are Man City, Portsmouth and Sunderland (although I nearly excluded Sunderland as it is the only place I've had a knife pulled on me, but that was just one pr1ck ).
Honourable mention to Blackburn fans, who were some of the friendliest I've met, but disqualified on the other counts...
What other nominations?
p.s. I am a Palace fan, optimistic about the next month but pessimistic about the coming year...

Sunderland for me without a doubt. I visited the stadium of light for the first time this season, and i can safely say the atmosphere in the ground was awesome with all sides of the ground making plenty of noise.
Pompey are also good but if them blokes with the rattle and the drum didn't show up it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as quite a few others.
Whist highbury was expectantly quite the one that shocked me was st james park, the stadium is magnificent I just wasn't expecting the silence, if it wasn't for us villa fans singing I probably could have heard david o'leary and Graeme souness chatting
As for travelling support villa must be up there with the best (it's just a shame our home support isn't quite as good)
West Ham fans meet much of the criteria mentioned. I was sat right next to the away fans during a night game at Anfield this year, and the West Ham support was superb. They sang non stop even though we spanked them, including a moving rendition of "We're st, and we know we are" when they went 3-0 down. Constant Chelsea/Frank Lampard abuse all night, funny stuff.
Well Mello,
Being a Palace fan myself i'm quite surprised to see you have nominated Portsmouth as they certainly don't fit in the category of friendly fans as several times i have been to porsmouth and have had one bloke pull out a stanley in the middle of a group of palace fans making their way back to the station, and i can name a couple of times that there has been trouble in pubs down there before the game..............went down on a coach and went in a pub (we had several women AND children with us) and as we left the pub we were bombarded with glasses and even chairs. one of our group ended up in hosital getting stitches in his head.

Had a knife pulled on me (and my dad) by s spurs supporter at Elland Rd back in 95, when we (Everton) smashed Spurs 4-1 in the FA Cup Semi Final.
My dad, not even a blues support and were subjecte to ' hope you lose the f'ing cup final, hope you get f'ing relegated, i should sort you scum out' etc etc
Then a massive Spurs fan came from nowwhere and smashed this bloke in the face, knocked him clean out. Apologised to us and said the best team had won.
Then we got out of there pretty quickly.
