Anyone here know anything about them?

I need to replace my Berghaus's - they are too small now. Gutted, as they have carried me though all England and Nepal had to offer, but time is moving on!

I'm a chunky fellow (18st), and will be doing up to (and over) 100km walks, so does anyone have any recomendations? Money no object - I need something that will hold together, and do the business.

Ta all!

Edit - I have read through the 'these boots are made for walking' thread, but no-one actually talks about weight of walker, and real cushioning....

Although I appreciate the need for quality boots I only ever buy basic fabric/tex ankle boots, these suit me fine for Snowdonia.

If I was going to invest in some good boots I would probably go for leather Karrimor KSBs. Try Gooutdoors.com. If you dont fancy parting with the best part of £100 try some of the army surplus websites, I've noticed some stock some really good quality goretex boots for roughly £50-£60

I had some Bergs, lovely boots, but they don't seem to be as good as they were. For every day walking boots I have some Brashers, and this was a toss up between them and the Karimoors, nothing in them IMO.

For more serious stuff Scarpa, the Rolls Royce of boots.

My wife bought a pair of "Raichle" boots after some advice a few years back.
She has a dodgy ankle and they are the most supportive/comfortable she has had....very hard wearing so far,and have retained their proofing after some hard use....I would certainly recommend them.

Hate hiking/walking boots . I bought some Hi Tech V-Lite boots for my Peru trip last year. The are water proof, feel like trainers and very hard wearing. They were perfect for the 4 day Inca Trail

I bought the same brand as they fitted me the best. Tried on 5 or 6 pairs, including Brasher, Scarpa and Meindl, and the Raichle pair just fitted and felt the most comfortable.

I think it's just a case of each to their own. Try on as many pairs as you can. Can't say they look the most fetching, but that's not why I bought them!

Thank you all for your suggestions etc.

Having tried on around 8-9 pairs, I plumped for a gore-tex Scarpa boot. Now comes wearing them around the house for a bit to make sure!

Not a bad price, but they did come with £40 of leki poles, which sweetened the deal.

Scarpa make great boots. They're just don't make them the shape of my feet!

I've got a pair of old Scarpa Manta (IIRC) leather boots that are still doing sterling service (although need a good waxing!).
