2nd in the 6 nations, 2nd in the world cup. I'm not a fan (his biggest crime being the persistant picking of Balshaw) but I feel he's been treated badly. Personally I'd like to see Rob Andrew out and although Martin Johnson was a great captain that doesnt say he'll be a great manager.
Personally I would have loved to see Dean Richards in the Role

I'd rather he went back to his area of expertise in backs coaching and gave the overall coach/managerial role to Johnson. However, that would be a big step down and might not be politically possible or acceptable to Ashton.

Although Ashton hasnt exactly 'inspired' I do feel he has been truely f$%^ed over by fleet street and the RFU. The RFU has handled this situation terribly.

Poor Johnson might live to regret taking this job on, poisoned challice.

Although i am happy with the outcome, the way Ashton has been treated is nothing short of disgusting. The guy has kept his mouth shut and remained dignified al the way through his stabbing in the back by the RFU. The guy deserves to leave with his head held high fr deal with this situation in such a classy manner.

Yup, can't think of a positive thing Rob Andrew has done for English rugby since he's been in charge.

Any ideas as to who Johnson will bring in on the coaching side?

Rumour has it, its an all Leicester coaching team of Johnson, Wells, Rowntree and Pat Howard. Not sure if that means we keep or get rid of Ford.

Only a rumour though

how do we get rid of Francis Baron? he's the architect of all this machiavellian wranglings and as such could carry the can. it is clear the is leaving the RFU entirely directionless and rudderless. The English rugby system (at the higher echelons) has always been extremely political, but this is just getting silly!

You can't. He has the backing of all the other idiots within the RFU. In fact the RFU board will never put pressure on Baron's job because they support each other. Someone new coming in might just decide that the structure of the RFU is wrong and needs updating. Which means the old farts who are on the board would lose their power/control. Thats what this is all about. The guys on the board keeping control, its nothing to do with whas best for English Rugby.

who owns the rfu then? is it a chairity? ltd Co? there must be some way of pressuring the board either through an AGM or buying votes or something. I did spend somet ime trying to find out the legal structure of the RFU but i didn't get very far!

The Telegraph today has Jim Mallinder as a leading contender. Depends if he wants to guide Saints to a successful premiership comeback.

My old school coach, Ashton. A legend, and I agree with Moore - constructive dismissal.

Don't really know the ownership/trading set up of the RFU. I do know that the RFU is a board and all decision's are put to the vote. They decide everything. Baron and Andrew did not want Johnson, the RFU board did - they got him. Which makes Andrews job look even more of a joke.

I pray to god that England can get Mallinder in. He's a top coach and brings some vital experience to help Martin Johnson. He also knows a lot about the up and coming/fringe Eng players.

There is, however, no way on earth Keith Barwell will ever let him go. Saints now have a dream ticket in a coaching team. It would take one huge comp package from the RFU to get him and i doubt the RFU has any money left.
