No England footy thread on here so...

Why oh why can these players perform at a decent level for their clubs but not replicate that form internationally? Another terrible display by the "team" last night.

1. Time to thank Beckham for the memories and put him out to pasture imo. He was largely a static observer at RB it seemed to me.

2. Wes Brown - what is he doing near an international team at RB? Is he really the best available without the Neviller?

3. Gerrard - why is he so st (or inconsistent at best) in an England shirt? (I am a LIverpool supporter)

4. How do we get the best out of Rooney? Personally I say play him off Owen in a 4-4-2.

5. Point 4 raises the question of a 4 man midfield. Who do you pick? I say JC - Barry - Gerrard - Bentley.

Discuss!

I was going to post the same.
Absolutely dire game. Why oh why do we bother with friendlys? Waste of time and supporters money. If there is nothing to play for (except for a place in the real games) players do not give their best. Scrap friendlys and start a proper league. Maybe extend the World Cup qualification system instead?

Calls for a radical change.........

Put a team together in say the Championship division. Call that team England and pay them the going rate. Players choose to play for Club or Country but not both.

A, France prevented Engalnd playing it was always congested in the middle of the park, so well done Mr France Manager

B, It always seem to me that Beckham gets a ste deal, yes he didnt play great but then who did, everytime he gets a pumel from the media and the like no one else has a good game either.

C, well there isnt a C because A & B were so great.

Really hope the media and fans don't start jumping on FC back because of this. I actually thought first half Eng played some half decent stuff. FC is the best man for Eng, he's doing all the right things IMO. Letting players know who is in charge and what is and is not acceptable. Players are playing new formations under a new manager.

Got to give it time, i believe FC will get the best out of Eng (which wont be as good as most think) and the last thing anyone should do is starting sgging anyone off.

Until England shake off their current reputation, this will always happen. Too much hype with the players... big salaries, big personalities etc., players seem to be releasing biographies as soon as they're capped.

I think the main problem is that the players don't train together often enough, they train daily with their clubs but when it comes to England it's only in the week running up to the match so no one knows what each other is going to do. Some players are still in there on name rather than how they've been playing though.

Don't get me wrong, Capello seems like the right choice to me. He's sending out all the right signals about discipline and earning the shirt. He will also need some time to bed in watching the players every week in order to get to know them and who should be picked or how they should play.

Yes France are a good side but England passed the ball about in front of them and didn't penetrate in the slightest.

I think Beckham is now way past his best tbh. He used to be a dynamic up and down the pitch player but he isn't as fit as he needs to be and is certainly not playing in the league he needs to be. Time to concentrate on his US career when we clearly have better options coming through.

The main problem is that all these players look great for their clubs when they have foreigners around the, Rooney looks great with Ronaldo and Tevez around him but was a boy lost last night - not his fault though - the formation didn't help him. Likewise Gerrard is anther class when he has Torres ahead of him - was he playing last night - didn't hear his name once.

Wes Brown is a joke - he isn't even playing well for Man U any more but I think he's better than Ashley Cole who just passes inside and runs on ... into nowhere - can't cross and can't tackle. Has anybody ever asked him to learn to kick with his other foot - just once? Same goes for Downing - these guys can't even cross a ball - how did they ever make it?

Come on Capello - time to start earning your money.

The first half was sooooo slow from us - we have no pace in the middle of the park - it was more like a testimonial - at least friendlies should be competitive.

Could you explain this in more detail taking into account Capello has been in the job 5 mins and in charge of two games?

Why do some expect instant success when a new coach or new CEO is brought in? 9/10 if there is someone new coming in at the top of the pile, its because the last guy left a real mess that needs sorting out.

I'm quite happy to let Capello have a year before i start making statements on his ability to coach England. He's had success everywhere he has been and at the highest level, does that not command a little respect from the supporters that maybe he knows what he's doing????

Don't understand the penalty decision - when Anelka beat him to the ball and toe-poked it past him what was David James supposed to do, vanish into thin air?

I looked to me that at that point James tried to keep his arms by his side and let Anelka get past him...apparently just standing in front of someone coming towards you constitutes a penalty award. Anelka didn't even try to go round him, just straight into him.

Otherwise I thought England played as well as France. England dominated possession for long periods and that was unheard of under the likes of Keegan etc when we were always chasing the ball and berating our players for being unable to string more than 2 passes together.

At no point did I feel France were 'scary' good and always felt that given 1 bit of luck we might get something from the game, well, a draw at least.

As has been said - we're paying Capello enough, lets give him time to get things sorted.
