This argument usually makes the night shift pass, If they both fought in their prime, who would win.
My money would be on Tyson, pound for pound i don't think there is any better fighter who has everlived.
Don't get me wrong Ali was phenomenal but i think people forget how awesome tyson was and just see him as the rapist.
And.........go

It would be a close called battle, Ali had more panache and agility about him, for that alone I'd put him down as the winner. My money would be on Tyson, pound for pound i don't think there is any better fighter who has everlived.

Please...get real...Buster Douglas decked and then knocked Tyson in his prime...Ali in his prime would only have had to train for a 1 or 2 round fight.
Yes I hear you say, but Tyson had a cold that night....hadn't trained properly....blah blah...
Tyson had people beat long before they entered the ring - just look at Frank 'Rabbit caught in headlights' Bruno or even that Trevor Berbick.
Ali would've been laughing all the way into the ring at Tysons air of invincibility - he was the king of out-psychicing an opponent.
If you judge a fighter by the calibre of the opponets he fought then again its Ali by a mile.
Foreman was far scarier a prospect than Tyson as were other fighters Ali had to overcome during that and earlier periods: Liston, Frazier, Shavers et all...
All IMHO

Ali fought tougher opponents.
Bruno almost had Tyson in his hayday.
Tyson would have to actualy hit Ali to win, dont think that would happen too often, though Tyson could probably take Ali's best shots time and again.
I'd have to go for Ali because after round 2 Tyson couldnt win and I doybt in the first 2 rounds he'd get lucky either.

I would say Tyson without a shoadow of a doubt
I have been watching a series on ESPN Classic focussing on Tyson's early years. When you watch half a dozen of his fights compressed into a 30 minute show, you realise what a truly great fighter he was (so far in the series, he has competed in 13 professional fights & racked up 13 knockouts with none of his competitors lasting beyond round 4).
He is so agressive and just overwhelmes his opponent right from the first bell

I heard a talk by an ex-sparring partner of Tyson who said she was "Up for it"then (allegedly)later claimed rape.He said Tyson was a good bloke.
personally I still see Tyson as a brawler as opposed to a boxer.
He had strength, speed, agility and stamina combined with the power generated in his punches from not a lot of movement.
He would have outwitted Tyson both out and in the ring.
Tyson would have literally taken Ali's head off with a single punch. Having said that he would have had to catch him first, and that would have been hard. However, Tyson, up close and personal with his opponent in a clinch, with that uppercut? IMO the best shot he had.
Ali was a great fighter...but I'm really not sure you can compare the two...different generation I guess.
One of the sadest things in sport I'v ehad to watch...the demise if Tyson....one of my sporting heroes...God, if Cus was alive today who knows...we might not we talking much of Ali anymore, cause with todays heavyweights (Lewis included) Tyson would be fighting them one after the other. I won't even bother to watch a heavyweight fight anymore....used to love staying up all night to watch tyson destroy someone.....in 20 seconds!!!
