I wasn't sure whether this should be here or not, but it seemed a reasonable place to start...

I've recently re-taken up shooting (By re-taken, I mean the last time was 12 years ago when I was a kid, plinking with a BSA Meteor or the odd time the CCF let us shoot!)

I've joined the local gun club and have been over the last couple of weeks. I shot my first average today for a competition which came out at 132/200 (66%) which I am comfortable with as a starting point. This was on 10metre air, but I've also entered the live fire .22 competition as well.

Are there any other target shooters on PH? I know there were some clay shooters as I've seen a couple of threads on that?

I adjusted my position a lot today and think that the new position will suit me a lot more, so I'm really hoping to increase that average significantly over the next couple of weeks. Does anyone have any hints or tips?

May as well show a picture of the first average in case it helps re tips:

Nice shooting Phil,
What happened on the last target?
The rest are good in my book.
I have resorted to 12B clay shooting.
Not got the mind for fixed targets.
Where do you shoot?

I accidentally cut off the shot with the photo It's just out of shot on the 2/1 line (!) I can't recall what happened but I do recall being thoroughly Jeffed off!

I shot at Roding Rifle and pistol club in Buckhurst Hill (it's only about 1.2 mile away so a great find for me) I've shot at clays but again only very casually once or twice. I've been invited to a shoot by someone at the club so may get a chance to shoot clays as well.

Yeah, I used to do a lot of prone smallbore rifle shooting back in the day. Then moved on to pistol, which I enjoyed more, till the fkers banned it.

Smallbore and fullbore, me and my dad used to share a S&W .357 mag revolver:

Ahhh, those were the days.

Then moved on to clay pigeon, until I moved away from home...nowadays, it's just plinking in the back garden with the air rifle.

You just know the Yanks will join in with their fully-automatics and howitzers in the back garden and all that, just bought me a ballistic missile at Home Dee-Po etc.

Good wholesome family fun, love the music:

Yeah, nearly cried when I lost my SW .38/.357 686

Now own a 7 shot Taurus .38/.357. Nice piece of kit, but with a 12" barrel and a wrist brace to bring it to over 24" in length it's a bit wieldy.

More fun than any of the rifles; thinking of getting a .44 mag to join it, when funds allow.

Ok so went down again tonight and had to shoot another average for the other competition I had put my name in for.

This one is .22 live (rim-fire) over 20 metres.

A much better average (Including a few bulls!), but apparently this is normal with 10m Air being a much more technical challenge.

178/200 or an 89% average let down by the last card (tiring arm - especially the flyer)

I'm pretty happy with this overall!

nice shooting tex!

Used to do the odd bit of target shooting. Recently got my shotgun licence which will soon be a new interest, just waiting to get the gun (probably a browning 525).

Wouldn't mind doing some target shooting, had a lovely weirauch (sp) 97 a few years back but sold it.
Could very well be tempted to get another but I'm keen to concentrate on shotties at the minute.

Looks like you're improving very nicely though mate well done.

Yup, standing with a gallery rifle. I'm planning on going down again tomorrow evening so will see if I'm consistent...
