Hi all. Just started playing a bit of "lighthearted" badminton with some work colleagues and have been borrowing the sports centre's rackets. Can anyone advise me on what to look for when buying a racket of my own or are they all much the same (especially at the lower end of the price range)? Any clues would be appreciated, ta.

I would just concentrate on whether you want a racket with the weight in the head or a light head. Don't worry about overall weight, just where that weight is and which you prefer.

Then don't get sucked into spending a shedload on one either. A £30-£40 racket can be just as good as a £100+ racket. It's just finding one that you like.

Seconded. I got a Wilson Titanium Comp for £5! Bloody good racket too.

I bought 2 rackets over 20 years ago and still have the one. The Gola was a heavy racket with an annoying towel handle, used it twice... The other was a Tecno Pro and still have it, rather light but the stringing was too soft so had it redone, won many of my local junior club games with it, havnt used it for a good 16 years though... paperbag

Get along to a good local sports shop and have a play and feel of them to see what feels comfortable.

Thanks for the info, folks. I'll wave some rackets around in the sports shop and see how they feel...

I sell badminton rackets (amongst other things) for a living from £6-£150....smile

You should be able to get a decent one piece gaphite racket for around £20/30....Stick with the big brands, Yonex/Carlton etc.

My personal recommendation would be Yonex.

HTH.
