I'm a blade, and i'm of mixed emotion. Results have been mediocre at best and disasterous at worst. I'm glad we are keeping a name such as his around the club as he has shown he can bring in players on his reputation.

So, who's next for us? Reports so far are going for: Marting Jol, Billy Davies, Steve McLaren or Aidy Bootheroyd.

I remember when Robson had just retired from playing the England job became vacant and some people were proposing him as a wild card for that! Is he getting the director of football role? He just doesn't seem to be able to hack it as a manager which is a shame.

I like Martin Jol. I think he's a nice human being and he was poorly treated at Spurs. Hope you dont get saddled with McTosser.......

I'd hate to get saddled with McLaren, i'd be close to surrendering the season ticket of 15 years.

As for Robson, i think he has an eye for a player, just not the best manager it seems. They have not said his role yet, but i think it'll be managing the number of connections we have with foreign clubs. He'll enjoy world-wide trips and getting pissed on the club i'm sure wink

But how many of these players have really strengthened the team?
Only Beattie and Speed have really made a difference. I suppose you could say we were unlucky with Cahill, as he was so good he priced himself out of our reach! Robson did also recognise Claude Davis as a one-man defensive crisis (as Derby discovered).

Hendrie, Naysmith & Sharp for example have been an utter waste of money. I'd be more impressed if his reputation had got players like Koumas or McSheffrey. And why release Fathi without giving him a fair chance, and recruit Carney instead?

Robson now seems to have retreated into siege mentality, blaming everyone but himself for the club's problems. When he first took over, the message was that some minor tweaking was required to get back into the Premiership. Now he's saying the team he inherited from Warnock are crap, and he needs time and (more) money to turn it around. The fact that he's had more money to spend than any Blades manager in history seems forgotten. The clicher for me is that he's now turned on the fans. The reason they're booing Bryan, is that they're tired of the same old crap on the pitch, and the same old excuses off it!

There are only 2 reasons he's being kept at the club:
(i) Too expensive to pay him off
(ii) The chairman needs a celebrity figurehead for his foreign deals
If it were my decision, he'd be off to the Job Centre on Monday.

I'm not sure about McLaren. Sure, giving him the England job was a big mistake, but he wasn't that bad at Boro until towards the end. He seems to have left them with a good Academy for one thing.

He was widely reported to have lost the dressing room. And his protege Southgate didn't exactly rush to his defence when he was doing the England job. Quite the opposite as I recall.

Looks like Captain Marvel's declined to step "upstairs". Brian Kidd's off too.

Looking like Kevin Blackwell (ex-No 2 to Warnock) in for the rest of the season.
Now let's get down to winning some games....

robson is one of the guys in football who puzzle me, Along with duncan ferguson costing millions but never actually scoring any goal. Robson seems to hav spent boat loads of cash at every club he's managed and theyve all ended up being garbage. Whywould anyone appoint him manager?

This is a perennial viscious circle though hey. If a club sacks its manager it must find a manager without a job (mostly) to take over... and why is that manager out of a job in the first place? Because he failed in his last position... (Moaninho excepted!)

Robbo clearly knows his stuff and was a stupendous player - though from what I've seen in the public eye he seems a very dour individual. I wonder if he has motivational skills required for man management.

Thats true but most managers can argue that whilst they may have got sacked after loosing 10 straight games or whatever, there was that time where they managed a top 6 finish for the 2 previous seasons. Robson has none of that and his teams seem to have been universally awful from the get go. Even when he spent a boat load of cash and somehow managed to get to 2 cup finals his team got relegated!

I dont think it helped that a lot of blades didn't want him to begin with and so as to whether he actually got a fair chance is difficult to judge. The other problem is united are still suffering from "weve just come from the premiership syndrome" so were expecting to be at the top.

  • edited to note............this is in complete contrast to wednesday who still suffer from "we used to be good but cannot come to terms with being crap syndrome" which is a whole lot different ! hehe
