"Bernard Hopkins believes a contract to fight Joe Calzaghe in Las Vegas on 11 or 12 April will be signed no later than next week."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/7172156.stm

Although on paper Calzaghe *should* win this fight the fact that it is probably going to happen at light-heavyweight, and with the experience B-Hop has, I think this could go either way.

I used to quite like Hopkins but he's become a moaning tt of late ... maybe some of it is to up the ante for the Calzaghe fight but saying he ouwldn't be beaten by a white bloke is a bit too far for me.

Anyway, Winky Wright beat him I thought. So while not being a 'fan' of JC particularly - if he goes over there and fights Hopkins in the US, I'll be shouting for him.

Bit of a shame the almighty $ of Vegas has lured the fight though. The talk of having it at Yankee Stadium before they pulled it down was enough to get me over there. Just fighting in the MGM or Mandalay though means I'll be watching on PPV no doubt.

Time to bump this up again as it's this Saturday...any predictions?

I reckon Calzaghe on points as he'll throw far more punches than Hopkins but won't be able to stop him.

I just wish it wasn't on bl00dy Setanta TV. Can you order Setanta and then cancel after the fight? I heard that you could as you aren't locked into a contract unlike with Sky.

No idea on the Setanta thing, may have a look, as I'm about this Saturday and would hate to miss this one.

I think Joe will struggle to get any sort of rhythm going, and the points victory will be close. He's on foreign soil, and will need to impress the judges. All boxers tend to say the move up in weight doesn't affect them, and 'I'm hitting harder than ever' but I do think the experience of BH may make this a tough affair. He'll spoil Joe, and i'm therefore going .....

split decision Joe or BH KO.

hehe

Cant see our Joe lossing this one, hes fitter, sharper, more hungry and has alot of experiance with him to. Only problem is i belive its not going to be a pretty fight to watch... BH is certainly not going to let Joe play his game.

Joe on points by 5 rounds

I think it is on TV. Failing that google "Live Footy Doctor" and download their software and come the night/morning of the fight you should be able to stream it.

As for my prediction, I have been a big Calzaghe fan for years and I have always seen huge potential when he fights given his huge work rate, amazing stamina, the ability to throw punches from every angle and his strong chin. I reckon this should be Calzaghe's night if he plays this fight the same way he does with every other big name fight he has had.

The thing that puts doubt in my mind is that Hopkins is a great fighter and has a habit of spoiling his oppponents styles.

I really do think that if Hopkins comes forwards and tries to hit Calzaghe with big punches he will just get picked apart all night long, but if Hopkins fights his normal fight game then it is going to be a long and tough fight...not to mention boring to watch.

I'm fearing Calzaghe is out of his comfort zone, Vegas is a very different place to fight than in the UK.

Listened to the Woodx v Tarver fight on R5 and brought back memories of Harry Carpenter shouting "get in there Frank". I'm at Silverstone this weekend so expect more of the same. I expect a 4am start as usual.

And prediction - Calzaghe by 3 rounds.

Hopkins on points - it's in the US remember and you gotta knock 'em out to get a draw there ... I saw the way Winky Wright was robbed by the judges in the fight he had with Hopkins so to win Calzaghe will have to win every roound or stop him I would think.

I expect Hopkins will win - it won't be pretty, but that's the result I think'll happen ...

This Brits fighting overseas thing at new weights (to make the fights happen) is to be applauded from their own bank balance's point of view but I fear JC will suffer the same outcome as RH did.

And to think I honestly thought - because of the media hype - that Hatton had a chance, I mean I ask you, come on, a little guy fighting a bigger guy who's actually very good - should have been easy to have read the outcome ... it's just that we all wanted him to win so much

Some valid points there Mikey. I got drawn into the Hatton belief but it became apparent from the start that PBF was a touch of class. Hopkins I think is just going to struggle with the speed. JC will just step up like he did against Lacy and Kessler and dish out a lesson.

I predicted JC by 3, if it was in the UK it'd be more like 7 rounds. He'll be dominant, slip the punches, not allow BH any kind of rythmn and just pepper him. Don't expect a stoppage, but I think the punch count will make it too difficult to give the result any other way.

Also, the step up in weight is negligible for this fight, Hatton stepping up 7lbs makes a massive difference on a small frame. JC moving up isn't that bigger difference, just makes it more comfortable in training. It also won't slow him down or tire him out like we saw in Hattons other venture up a weight.

Just hope I can stay awake for this.

As said, Setanta, early hours of Sunday morning ...

I kinda agree Vette - a jump up from Super Mid to Light Heavy is not as much as RH and Hopkins has to lose sometime - it's just he's a wily old campaigner who has come up trumps before in these big fights. I don't think JC can knock him out either so prepare yourself for 12 rounds of stealing by Hopkins probably.

Roy Jones is next for JC if he wins apparently ...

I agree, no way he has the power to knock Hopkins out.

Worryingly JC was looking a bit small stood next to Hopkins in the weigh in ... I'm going to call it - Hopkins win by TKO in the 10th.
