Anyone watching the Mosconi Cup ??

America looks to have the strongest team, and I think they could steamroller Europe this year. As good as Tony Drago is, he shouldn't be in the European Mosconi Cup Team.

Darryl Peach, current WC, can hopefully get some results. His win against Gomez in the World Championship Finals was fantastic.

Europe had a fantastic day today ending it at 5 all, Tony Drago also found some form. Watching him in full flow flying through racks is something else!

Yes, they don't miss much at that level. That's all the more pressure though you cant afford a mistake in 9-ball at all.

He is a great player, probably the greatest player ever, but he was acting like a child there!

Team USA were also slagging off Drago saying he was the weakest player in the Europe team. Even though he has beaten Morris, Duel and Van Boening!!

It was a few days ago now but just seen this thread. Congrat's Europe!

Highlights must be Drago coming back from 5-1 down to win 6-5, & they say he is the weakest player! That takes skill & courage, especially in 9 ball when the chances of running out from the break are higher than 8 ball, snooker etc. Top bloke! clap

Low's... i've lost respect for Strickland, he's an amazing player ('remarkable' even, if we use his own words) but how he acts like a 5 year old! Inspecting the pack before the break, he cant ask for a re rack anyway so just get on with it, then to say his opponent moved, surely he can focus so he isnt distracted? Oh how i wanted him to lose that match. Also how he talks back to Ms Tabb, she takes no crap from him, good girl!

Whats your thoughts on the break rules, 3 balls etc & between the lines?

I watched a it of this the other night - can't see the point really, the table is the size of a packet of fags, the pockets are like buckets, I never saw one guy miss a shot!

Yawn!

Are these pool players any good at snooker - can't believe they are!

You only have to hit it in the 'general direction' of the pocket for it to fall in.

Drago surprised a few people (especially the Americans)

I agree totally on Stickland. Don't think he'll be sending Daryl Peach a Christmas card after Daryl called Stickland 'scum of the earth' and offered him a fight in the in their heated match. Strickland has history with Ms Tabb. A few years back he presented her with a bunch of flowers when she next refereed his match as the previous match had got a bit heated.

The 3 ball break seems hard, to pot 2 balls and not have the next shot must be a kick in the teeth. I think dropping it to 2 balls would be better, nobody seemed to be having a problem with 2 but the 3rd was often missed due to very small distance or an unlucky kiss.

Tables are actually 9 feet so much bigger than UK pub size 8 ball but of course amaller that the full size snooker. The cloth is different, it has no 'nap', so no furry stuff like a snooker table, its just fast smooth cloth.

As for being good at pool / snooker, theres alot of snooker players that become very good at pool, Steve Davis, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Tony Drago etc though agreed, there arn't many that seem to go from Pool to snooker.

End of the day though they are very different games played on very different tables, could be like comparing a tennis player to a squash player I suppose, they can both wack a ball but different strokes are needed.

The new break rules should make the matches last longer, less likely to break & clear then go on to do it again & again, especially if the rules are winner breaks. I read Strickland famously won a million dollars for breaking & clearing 10 racks on the trot, that would be impossible now.

Yeah, Strickland I think won the lag and went on to win the match 13-0. His opponent never got a shot at the table.

There are a few snooker players who have tried pool, I have watched Ronnie O Sullivan play US 8 ball, about the same size table as 9ball). He got thumped!

Drago and Davis though were both very good, but take Davis at the top of his game in 9 ball and Earl Strickland at his peak and my money would be on Strickland!

The new break rules are daft IMO, the fact that you can pot 2 balls on the break and still hand over the table is ridiculous. There didn't seem to be as much control on the break either. The only option was a cut break to try and hold the white around the middle of the table.

Oh, and speaking of Strickland. One tournament I saw he was cheeky to Ms Tabb, then in his next match he came in with a bunch of flowers as an apology hehe
