A great manager, and I'd have high hope for his success. However, he's not English, but then again, the FA have already ruined the game in this country.

Loooking at his credentials, he would make a hardline manager - something our over-rated prima donnas may not like ... but it should be good for 'Team England'.

Although Shearer and Pearce have been mooted as assistants ...

WTF? What can they bring to the table?

Just heard an interview with Marcel Desailly on the Radio. Capello was his manager at AC where he was captain.

He basically said that if Capello gets the job the players will have to put their egos away because he takes no shit whatsoever and is very hard on players who dont perform. Also that he doesn't give a fcuk about the press and is single minded and focussed on winning. Sounds perfect. thumbup

Yeah, I heard he has a great attitude with regard to press and fans, in that he's more intelligent than the majority of them and certainly knows more about football than them, so will completely ignore everything they say, and if he does get it wrong and they were right, it's just statistical coincidence - legend.

Mark Hateley was on Radio 5 last night saying the exact same thing. We need less of the England manager referring to players in a casual manner - 'Stevie G' - WTF?

They can bring 'being english' to the table

You need to be asking why the our national team needs a manager from another country, what a load of boocks

ETA I can understand why he wants to coach us (£4million until 2010) but why oh why do we not want and englishman for the job? anybody know?

No english manager wants the job! I cant really think of any really decent ones anyway.

Capello is an excellent choice, the England players need a good kick up the arse and i cant think of many better managers to do it.

Because no English manager has won titles with 4 different clubs? Because nobody has the experience required for a top job? The same reason a German is managing Real Madrid, not an Englishman, because there are no English managers qualified for the top jobs, in England, for England or abroad.

name one Englishman with 1/5 of the credentials of Capello.

Your missing the point, who cares how many titles he's won?? He just sits at the side and shouts stuff, in the end its the players on the pitch that do all the work.

Its nothing to do with how good they are, its the fact that we're having someone thats not english for our national team. all the players have to be english, why doesn't the manager have to be??

Frankly, I'd take Davros the Dalek as manager if it brought a bit of glory to our shores!

I'm fed up having to rely upon 1966 at shouting matches with the jocks.

The following club sides are managed by non English managers;

Man U
Arsenal
Liverpool
Chelsea
Man City
Tottenham
Sunderland
Aston Villa

etc...

Where is this English manager with a track record of winning championships and champions leagues going to come from? We've tried an English manager from the 2nd tier and he was useless.

"he just sits at the side and shouts stuff"? I suppose you'd have been able to win La Liga with Madrid then? Provided you have a good set of lungs of course.

I really don't see the problem with a foreign manager, we don't have to pay the players, we do the manager, with that in mind I see no reason to restrict who a nation can employ, maybe if you could make the manager do it for free like the players then you'd have a point.

Thats fair enough, i was under the impression that the players got massive pay for playing for england?

and maybe i could have won La liga with Madrid wink

As far as I'm aware they only get paid for major competitions, and that's done on a performance basis, so no semis/finals, no money.
