Can someone explain..

the logic used by the FA when negotiating contracts with England Football managers?
There is a case that the best option by far for McClaren going into that last game was to lose.
By losing, and therefore not qualifying, he gets a fat payoff, some time off and based on Sven's experience, will get a premiership managers job in a few months.
Now clearly I am not an expert football manager, but I do know a little about business and for the FA to negotiate a contract where the best financial option for their employee is to fail seems more than a little strange.
Maybe they thought they would never have to get to the situation where they would have to sack him, but there again surely they should negotiate reward for wins not losses?
Thoughts anyone?

What's really funny is that these absurd salaries of both players and managers are justified by "well, if you want to attract the best, you've got to pay for it".
If this is what you get when you pay top money, one shudders at the thought of what's lurking in the lower leagues.
Oh, wait...

Well, the salaries are paid for by the clubs, where the players do fine, however, when playing as the national team they are guff. Whether that is down to not plying together much, or the ineptitude of the coaching staff, eho knows. But I think the clubs have the right to pay whatever they want to the player. Either way, we need a manager who has some balls. Mourinho, or Cappella if you ask me. Someone who has ego enough to put the players in their place, and to drop big players who aren't doing the job.

I quite agree. The clubs have the right to pay whatever they like, and I have the right to say "you're paying a fortune for wits, you wits".This has come up more than once in our office and the consensus was that the FA should sod the Premiership and go looking for international talent in the lower leagues.
Don't pay 'em anything, and basically make the proposition that they're playing for pride, the flag and their mum, with a pie and a pint afterwards.
I'd love to see some actual PASSION on the pitch instead of eleven bored multi-millionaires, which is what we've seemingly got in the team at the moment. All that individual talent appears to be worth -all on the night.

The difference with Sven is we sacked him before the World Cup, when he'd already qualified, hadn't really done anything wrong, other than spoke to that nob from the Sun. Three consecutive quarter finals is a rubbish reason for dismissal, so you can't really sack him and not pay off his contract if you want rid.
As far as Mclaren is concerned though, god knows why he gets a pay-off!
