Well, are we going to do it ?

It's a tough game as these Croats are a good side. I'd like to see Beckham playing even though he isn't at his peak. Still capable of winning a game IMO.

shout COME ON ENGLAND !

Im going to be controversial and say I think it would be best if croatia and russia qualified. I was actually hoping the russkies could do it on sat so this issue would not arise.

England seem to limp into tournaments and then be expected to win them. I think it would actaully be best for the englamd set up if they failed to qualify. May result in a few worthwile changes to the sport in this country. It would also be a welcome relief from the endless pages of newsprint dedicated to where gerrard touched the ball on the pitch in the last match againt the next oponents 5 years ago or something irrelevant, during next summer.

However if they do qualify I will be supporting them next summer.

Although I see your point, I'd still rather them be in the finals than not. They can still develop the game whilst they're in the competition. They don't need to be waiting another 3 years for the next competition to start to enable them to build on what they've got.

I think they've had sufficient scare for them to realise they need to pull they're bloody fingers out.

In reality if Macedonia can beat Croatia with a 2-0 scoreline then what chance do Croatia have of beating England at Wembley, having said that sometimes big occasions can raise the opposition.
If we do lose to the Croats then we dont deserve to be there in the first place.

What baffles me is all these excuses about losing key players to injuries, dont we have more than 11 key players or is it that we simply dont give other players a chance to prove themselves and rely too much on the big names..why hasnt Walcot been given the chance like Owen had when he first broke into the side?

Apologies for sounding downbeat, but it wouldn't surprise me if they blow the chance they have been given.

Would be typical England.

Of course, I'd love to see them in the finals, but not confident.

Very happy to be proved wrong though! smile

I think it will probably be a nail biting 0-0, or possibly 1-1 with us equalising in the last minute, having missed a penalty in the 80th minute.

What would be really great is if we qualified and then the FA, in a rare display of backbone, fired Mcwr anyway on account of our execrable qualifying display. They wont though..

We really should be thinking of easily beating Croatia 10-0.

The fact that we are not even confident of a draw just goes to show how the quality of national team have steadily declined since England 1966 and Mexico 1970.

It should be a 4-0 romp, but my money's on scraping through 1-1.

Whatever happens, Mike Baldwin MUST be sacked.

or how the quality of everyone else has improved, and that rose-tinted reminiscence isn't really a true reflection of facts

10-0? no-one, but no-one, gets beaten 10 nil at international level these days, not even san marino or andorra

Croatia are a tough side, victory is not a foregone conclusion at all, but i reckon england will probably do it (grits teeth)

I just hope wembley can create an atmosphere, I went to the Germany and Estonia games with my young son, very family friendly but no atmosphere. It should be a cauldron which teams dread visiting.

I find the whole England situation crazy. Lets take a walk through a sample of a potential starting 16:

Robinson
Carson
A Cole
Bridge
Terry
Ferdinand
Campbell
Richards
J Cole
Hargreaves
Lampard
Gerrard
Beckham
Rooney
Owen
Crouch

That team contains some real stars, I mean REAL stars who would be welcome at any top European club, and indeed most top international squads..... Now look at the England qualifying group: Croatia, Russia, Macedonia, Israel, Andorra

How many real stars do we see in those teams: Benayoun? Tal Ben Haim? Simic? Kranjčar? Didn't think so.....

Yet still England find themselves struggling to qualify from a group that - frankly - they should have dominated from the start. Its worth noting that a lot of the reason the players above are stars is because they are so fantastic at club level; Lampards consistant 20+ goals from midfield, Gerrards game-dominating performances, Rooney's flickers of genius....

So what's gone wrong? Is it the manager? Logic says it must be..... but then what do I know, I'm just an armchair button pusher. But surely, if your gonna make the best cake and you start with the best ingredients, then you have an innate advantage? Maybe you need to use a better spoon to stir them.....

I suspect England will win 2 or 3 nil, head the group and get a decent seeding for the Euro Championship next year.

McLaren (abetted by Vegetables) will say "told you so" and the world will be right again.

Of course the true calamity will come next year....

Im going to say 3-1 and England to top the group on goal difference. I just cant see the Croats playing well enough to beat us at Wembley, especially due to the fact they are already through. Look what happened at half time against Macedonia when they knew Russia had been beaten and they were already through.

We were talking about this all morning, we came to the conclusion, that if England played awfully, Croatia scored a freak own goal, Beckham played and had a howler missing a penalty (not that I want him to do badly, but McLaren putting an unfit player in, it would be effectively his fault) and England then letting in an awful goal, scraping a draw and going through, McLaren would surely be fired, and then we can get that Mourinho chap in, and do the business.

Beckham is dropped. Wright Phillips in. Robinson out carson in. England play 3-5-1.

McLame will survive even if England do scrape through 0-0 and he gets booed for 90 minutes. The FA are aptly named. Brian Barwank said that "McClaren was always his first choice". Yeah right - thats why they offered the job to Big Phil. rolleyes
