....after that tinkering with the formation, McLaren will accept that he can't shoehorn Lampard in and just treat him as back up for Gerrard.

Indeed. Nice to see new faces getting capped, but having said that he was poor today.

I was there yesterday and Fat Frank got a right Booing when he came on.

Agree Lescott didnt play well but to be honest the second half was a wet squid, game was over crowd was very quiet.

Barry played well again I dont think Frank should be getting in at all atm.

Reading the speculation in this mornings papers it seems Lamps will be back in the team for Russia! I'm guessing McLaren wasn't at Wembley on Saturday?

Personally I feel that he upsets the balance in the side and ties Gerrard (who I believe is a better attacking player) down.
I wouldn't actually boo him, I admit, but I do assume this is pretty much the reason he is getting boo-ed. Or to be more precise to let McLaren know that a fair percentage of fans feel that his selection is wrong.

Fans seem to forget Lampard was the only reason we got to the World Cup in the first place, and that he wasn't the only rubbish player for England at that tournement. It's unfair to say we should play Gerrard and a holding midfielder based on the fact it works better than Lamps and Gerrard because we haven't seen Lampard play alongside Barry yet, it may well be he's more effective than Gerrard (he'll certainly score more goals than Gerrard from that position, as he's proven with Chelsea).

How many goals Lampard scores for Chelsea is immaterial. As is whether he scores more than Gerrard. What matters is how the team performs with and without him. Not only do we seem to be a better team in terms of results, but we also play more exciting football to my eyes.

But when Gerrard and Lampard play alongside each other they BOTH play rubbish, Gerrard hasn't been good for England either, as soon as one is out and Barry comes in, Gerrard does well, what's to say Lampard wouldn't be much better without Gerrard?

I blame Lampard. (That'll be the England 'fan' logic). Clearly it's his fault, as he's past it, even though he only played for 10 minutes. It's not Rooney's fault, for giving away a penalty with a clumsy challenge, it's not Robinson's fault for being a 3rd rate keeper, it's not Gerrards for missing the easiest goal of the season, no it must be Lampards fault.

But, England's problems started the McClaren got the job.
