Quite simply, there is no right or wrong racket for you to buy. Try a couple out, see hwo they feel. If you're just starting up, I suggest you don't go for something too tightly strung, as you'll not have the feel of the shuttle just yet. Yonex and Carlton seem to be the better options, although they're all made in the far east. Careful about buying on the web too, as there are a lot of fakes about.

Go to local shop, and try some thumbup

Sportsworld (or is it Soccerworld?) have some very good value rackets (Carlton, Yonex etc). The guy I play with is always skint and his racket was falling apart so I bought him one there, a Carlton one for about £20. It is a single piece graphite one (no join where the shaft meets the head), they claimed it had a RRP of £60, may not be true but it's a very nice racket.

Sounds like the one I bought, very good racquet especially at that price.

Go to http://www.centralsports.co.uk/shop.php?page=home or http://www.directsportseshop.co.uk/.

I would recommend the Ashaway Dynamic 60 for a begineer. Probably the most important piece of kit to have is a good quality pair of trainers; after all its no good having an expensive raquet, if you can't get to the shuttle to hit it in the first place! Yonex or Hi-tech for badminto shoes.
