Derek Dougan, Wolves and Northern Ireland legend, and one of the last of the great old-fashioned centre forwards, died today aged 69.

RIP Doog, you're God's big summer signing now.cry

Dougan was a fantastic centre forward ... I remember the Wolves team from the 70s - him and John Richards ... MCCalliog, Wagstaffe, Hibbitt etc. Great days.

I thik my dad saw him in the 1960 Cup Final playing for Blackburn AGAINST Wolves ...

I remember him saying he went down on the M1 for quite a bit from Brum - hardly a car in sight - it hadn't been open more than a few months and people were still scared to go in ... no speed limits of course.

Sorry to hear this news.

The Doog was a total hero - not just on the pitch. He had strong views on nearly everything but usually talked a lot of sense.

Probably the most down to earth and intelligent footballer I ever saw on TV.

And he founded Astral Sports which was at one time the second biggest sports retailer in Britain before being taken over by Olympus in the 1980's. Olympus was then taken over by Sports Division which was taken over by JJB which is probably about to be swallowed up by Sports Direct and so in a way it will be the biggest again.

RIP The Doog.
