Ok, I've got a solution. People always complain the Prem season is to long, so to be fair to Sheff United lets relegate West Ham as well.

Everyone happy then.

'cept of course if you were going to relegate another team...... it'd have to be Wigan on points.

I'm losing interest, relegate the lot and be done with it.

No. West Ham cheated and should be deducted points for every game they were playing players who were not legally registered to play.

That would be none then, according to the PL authorities.

so what were they fined for, then - having complied with the premiership regulations, or having not done so and then lied about it?

For breach of a rule on 'outside interference'. They ( the PL authorities )have continually stated however that both players were properly registered to play at the club from august 31.
edited to clarify ambiguity.

I see a fine as reasonable. But let the football do the talking.

The more games yu win than the rest results in staying up.

If your not good enough, you go down....simple.

AFC Wimbledon, the Ryman League club formed after the movement of the Dons to MK, made an error with the registration of one player and fielded him fielded him this season.
They were given an eighteen (18) point deduction. This was until the same thing happened to WH who were threatened with at worst a fine and 3 point deduction (earlier this season).

When this was pointed out to the FA in an appeal, AFC Wimbledon's punishment was reduced to just three points.

Bear in mind how many people there were to check this fact a each of the respective clubs, and their respective experience/qualifications (AFC Wimbledon are effectively being run by the ex fans of the dons).

Now I have nothing against WH, but a complete lack of faith in the FA and their ability to do a resonably and consistent job. The whole affair has been mismanaged.

AFC Wimbledon website said:

. Jermaine Darlington was a registered player - the failure to complete the paperwork re the ITC was a technical breach of the rules
. This was a victimless "crime" - no-one was cheated of points and there was no deception on our part
. Deducting 18 points is a totally disproportionate penalty compared to the offence
. We are being treated very differently from bigger clubs such as Liverpool and West Ham United. We don't begrudge them the treatment they are getting - we just want the same
. The minister (and shadow minister) should intervene with the football authorities to ensure that the football regulations are applied in line with natural justice - the current decision does not do that
