So Vaughan has another injury. This time a broken finger. And will miss at least one, possibly two tests. He has not played a test since winter 2005/6. So once again we will have a temporary captain because however many tests Vaughan doesn't play in he's still the official captain. Is it time to say "Thanks Mike, but bye" and let another captain take over properly so that we can have some stability. Vaughan has so many injury issues that he is unlikely ever again to go through a tour or a domestic season without missing tests.

Ah, so a broken finger is a career threatening injury is it? I'm afraid that broken fingers are part of the job in cricket. It's that nasty hard ball, don't you know.

If his knee had goen again, or his hamstring then perhaps you'd have a valid point.

If Flintoff's ankle goes again is it the knackers yard for him too?

With Vaughan its one injury after the other. OK this is a finger but once again we're reduced to starting a series with a stand in skipper and its not good for continuity. You only have to look at him in the field to see that his general fitness and mobility is not up to international standards. I would be prepared to wager that he will not complate a full tour again and I think it's time to move on.

If Flintoffs ankle goes he'll be out of the side until he's fit to be selected again. What will not happen is that the selectors will guarantee to keep his place open in perpetuity which is what they've done with vaughan.
