A good game for Mahmood, at least the ball would HAVE to be within a reasonable distance of the target and a bouncer wouldn't be hit into the next post code roflroflrofl

yes, it is. and i wont be drawn into an arguement over it by someone with no knowledge of it.
it would be like me suggesting that football is just a silly game, which im sure id get flamed for. just because i have no knowledge or liking for the game.

and bowling is actually one of the most played sports in the world. it just doesn't get the publicity.

My only gripe with bowling of the ten pin variety is the slight 'luck factor' which isn't present in other sports. You can bowl seemingly identical balls into the 'pocket' btween the head pin and the one next to it. Half the time you might get a strike, some times an impossible-to-spare split. Maybe this, in fact, is the attraction of the game??

But try telling that to a nine year old who has bowled into better 'areas' than another bowler and yet has got nothing but splits....

Anyway, we can both agree its a fun way to spend some time with the kids!!

luck and sport go hand in hand. saying a sport is only about 100% pure skill or such like is stupid. there are no sports that do not rely on an element of luck. FACT.

as for hitting a good pocket shot but not carrying through and taking all 10, it happens to the best of us. i average over 200 and i get shots that leave a pin even though they are flush in the pocket. the thing with it is, the ball rotations, speed, entry angle, pin deflection etc etc, getting it right every time is hard. being able to pick up a single pin for a spare, or a tough split relies on skill, being able to place the ball in the right location time and time again.

as for the 9 year old thing, you try doing something similar with football, ice hockey, rugby.

im sorry but your post just suggest to me a lack of understanding of the game. maybe if it involved kicking the ball instead it might be different???

No Steve - kicking a bowling ball would just hurt

I agree that appreciation of finer nuances of a sport depend on experience of that sport. Cricket is a great example - people who don't understand the game think its just an afternoon in the park. I think I hit the nail on the head when I said the luck thing, ie fine line between strike and split, is what makes the sport interesting to people who pursue more seriously.

Either way, each to their own.

who's steve?
i remember there was some moron a few years back at a bowling alley in enfield, decided it would be smart whilst drunk to try and do some silly football things with a 16lb bowling ball, like for example, throw it up in the air and head butt it...nuff said. ambulance was called.
