I'm putting my cash behind the bar.

Any tips for a horse with a good return from an each way bet then? I'm too much of a coward to bet to win, and don't like betting on favourites with rubbish odds / payout.

The current favourite is at 9/1 and an e/w bet pays 1/4 the odds up to 5th place (with certain bookies) so it's all reasonable value, but the National does tend to be a bit of a lottery!

If you want to check which bookies are the best, use www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing/ante-post-racing/national-hunt/grand-national and look at the bottom of the page to see which bookmakers pay e/w to 5th place

I think I'm going to go for Bothar Na, from the same trainer as Hedgehunter.

Funny thing is, Sam Waley-Cohen (jockey) won't get a penny if he wins. Although I expect his Dad would give him some "pocket money"!

The joy about the National is that any nag less than say 25's could win it its just one of those races. A stray nag could take out 3 of the favourites in one blow. Love it!. I will be selecting a couple of EW bets with a pin and seeing what happens. Enjoy. Oh and don't forget to put your winnings behind the bar beer

Had money on Slim Pickings to win. Needless to say, at 50/1 on betfair i was quite disapointed he didn't come in first after such a great run. Nevermind, was certainly exciting......
