Another World title defence looms....Maybe, just maybe, he may at last get some recognition, but only for fighting a reality TV celebrity. It's a shame it's come to this but something is better than nothing I guess. He pretends it doesn't hurt him but the way he's ignored, such as last year's sports personality of the year debacle, must piss him off a touch.

I hope he fights to his full potential and puts on a show on Saturday. 35000 crowd at the millenium stadium and Live on ITV1 as well. Brilliant.

WHen is he going to fight someone we've heard of?

I'll give him Jeff Lacy who he beat last year - that was a superb performance ... but who before or since?

Marvelous Richie Woodhall, Dangerous David Starie, Ridiculous Robin Reid ... and well-known others.

He should have been in America five years ago - and fought over there. But he didn't.

Top pro - but hasn't gought the best calibre of opponents. Sports Personality of the Year my arse!

I hope he doesn't fight as badly as he did last time ... I'll turn over.

Ah, now, Jermain Taylor is mooted as Calzaghe's next opponent. Now that IS a tough test ... if he comes through that I'll give him the respect he'll deserve.

Until then, no. And he does slap ... amazing ... for a world champ.

Interesting that many of the others won't fight him. To be fair he's fought everyone who has agreed to a contest. What's he meant to do if they're content just to wait for him to retire?

I don't believe that - if they won't fight him - and it's a BIG if to me, they won't cos he isn't a big money draw in the States and no-one will put up the money cos no-one knows who he is. Why? Cos he's never bothered to get his arse over there to tell them who he is ...

www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=005364

Go see his record - there's hardly anyone you've heard of!

He has never fought in the States - and he's defended the title 20 times. OK, he likes his own back yard but he's a WORLD champion. And the money is IN THE STATES JOE!

You can't honestly tell me fighters of the quality of Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor would quake in their boots about fighting Joe Calzaghe and WOULDN'T fight him - do me a favour ...

www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=031056

Go and have a look at taylor's record - two wins over Hopkins and a draw with Winky Wright ... now HE is a tough guy ...

And Taylor is Middleweight, not Super ... wonder what they'd fight at?

Just for the fun of it - look at the names on de la Hoya's record ... jeez, that guy has fought some tough fights ...

Can't wait til he takes on (and hopefully dethrones Mayweather)

I was thinking more along the lines of Kessler specifically. Taylor and Hopkins have apparently said no already, although cash is likely to be the issue as you say.

Fair enough ... Taylor vs Calzaghe would be a belter though - in Wales or in the States.

Haven't seen kessler fight.

Rubbish

Joe has beaten everyone put infront of him, boxing isnt decided by the boxer but by the management and broadcasters.

This tripe about 'never beaten anyone apart from Lacey' is wearing thin too.

Mario Veit - Prior to fight = one of the best! After loss - Who?

Byron Mitchell- Prior to fight = one of the best! After loss - Who?

Omar sheika- Prior to fight = one of the best! After loss - Who?

Woodall- Prior to fight = one of the best! After loss - Who?

Charles Brewer- Prior to fight = one of the best! After loss - Who?

I'm pretty sure if he knocked out Jermain Taylor or Kessler someone would turn out some excuse or be added to your 'who' list.

Joe is the best fighter in British history and in the worlds top 3.

AND.....Why should he have to fight in the states??????

He is a Welsh world champ, if they are serious about taking his belts they should come to Cardiff. Stop pandering to the yanks!!!

You're talking tripe mate.

Sadly disco, the other end of the M4 is not where the money is ... boxers move to the States as they get better/richer/moves up in class.

People don't go to Cardiff from Las Vegas ...

All those guys who you mention - who said they were the best ... Sky or ITV that's who - or Frank Warren.

Or them themselves.

Anyone would think you were from Cardiff ... rolleyes

I'm not saying JC isn't good, I'm just saying I think he has fought fighters of dubious pedigree for too long and notched up the defences. He should have gone to the States five years ago or more ...

His loss.

If he fights Jermain Taylor and it even goes the distance I'll doff my cap in his direction.

OK know-all, which BRITISH fighter has a better record than Joe?

Apart from possibly Winky and Jermain who is better P4P in world boxing?

Although America does have the money it shouldn't automatically be the place that all big fights all held, 35k fans at the millenium proved that this can happen. Get Taylor/Kesler to put their big gobs on the line. The champ should call the shots, not the person who gets paid the most i.e Tarver/Taylor.

I would say Joe would beat Kessler, Taylor ot Tarver. He always steps up for the big fights.

I'm not a know-all - it's just my opinion ...

As yours is yours ...

But I repeat, who has he fought REALLY?

Anyone can have a something and 0 record if they never fight anyone who's capable of fighting back. Witness that joke fight on Saturday night.

The Lacey fight was top-notch stuff and I cheered him on make no mistake - but apart form that?

Lacey was a somebody as was Ritchie Woodall albeit past his best when they fought. I think a Woodall in his absolute prime would take Calzaghe. Aside from that I tend to agree with you. BUT... As has been said it not really fair on Calzaghe to accuse him of fighting nobodies as no one will fight him.

The sad thing is that he won't get world recognition as he hasnt fought in the US enough, he should have gone and based himself there 3 years ago then he would be recognised.

As for Saturday's fight, it got stopped way to early, Calzaghe would have won anyway, but no real damage had been done when the ref stepped in. And I agree some of his punches did look suspect! But Calzaghe has got fast hands for his size.

Mikey your the one talking tripe,

The money is not in America anymore, Maybe a few years ago, But PPV has put a stop to that. Calzaghe can draw a 35k crowd and a huge purse in his backyard, who wouldnt?

Joe has done all any boxer can do and thats beat who has been put in front of him. Guys like Kesslar wont be pinned down in a contract, Even for a reported £3 million Jermain is umming and ahhing. The promotors are forced into taking lesser fighters to keep active.
