If McClaren Were To Resign/Be Sacked...
Discussion
Too many people wanted a English manager, frankly imo there is not one that is up to the job.
No English manager would have got a 5-1 against Germany, Sven was bad when it came to the actual tournaments but he did bring something to the team but he got stale.
People need to realise that people like Big Sam and Pierce need coaching but by good managers.

I disagree.
Allardyce would have been perfect. He is a fantastic motivator - players would walk through walls for him and he is a pioneer in coaching techniques. He has worked wonders at Bolton who have punched above their weight because of his acumen. The FA got cold feet because of the upcoming Panorama expose which in the end proved nothing.
McClaren got the job by default and he was an appalling choice. He was a second rate club manager who even lost the dressing room at Middlesbrough. The FA should bite the bullet now and sack him and go back to Allardyce.

Well I certainly see your point re Allardyce but to me just like Pierce, he can motivate a team but consistently his tactics leave him exposed, I think either of them would be good if they had two years being mentored by a high calibre foreign coach. If you see what I mean...

Whilst Allardyce has done very well at Bolton, he hasn't won anything and has no CL experience; we need someone who is an established top flight manager and who has won a lot of sliverware; Lippi or Mourinho perhaps?
I think that what Allardyce has done on a tiny budget is remarkable. Mourinho has won things by spending zillions and is still going to fall way short of winning the prem this year despite that.
Englands most successful managers have tended to be those who are able to do well with what they have - both Ramsey and Bobby Robson were small club managers who knew how to get the best out of the players. I think Allardyce is the same, as is Steve Coppell and Lawrie Sanchez. McClaren is just a second rate manager period.
Is it just down to poor management?
Are there fundamental atitude problems anongst the England players?
Sue Motts made some pertinent points in The Telegraph on Monday when she intimated that the main problem the England players have is that, when playing for England, they are only playing with other English players. Therefore, those that are used to playing with the international superstsrs who play with Man U and Chelsea find themselves working with individuals of lesser quality and service begins to dry up.
Despite this, I do feel management has a lot to do with players' atitude - just contrast England (stuffed full of highly paid megastars) and Northern Ireland (full of lower division sloggers).
Maybe Laurie Sanchez would be a good choice for England - or would the England players not "respect" him.

It doesn't help when the manager uses poor tactics and plays people out of position. He played Lennon on the wrong wing against Israel and instead of swapping him over he took him off. And all because he, the manager, was not strong enough to deal with the Gerrard / Lampard situation.
But I do think that some of our players, like some of our cricketers, are prima donnas with oversized egos and a hugely inflated sense of their self importance.

TBH I don't a new manager is going to make much of a difference unless he sticks a tube of dynamite up most of the players arses. When it comes down to it the next manager is going to pick exactly the same team and play them in pretty much the same way. It should be the players who are getting the shit not the managers, because at the end of the day the manager never puts a foot on the pitch and its down to the players on how much they get stuck in and take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Totally agree with everything written above. McClaren hasn't got a clue what he's doing and it seems the FA are going to cross all their fingers that England win their remaining games and qualify and justify them picking McClaren, rather than sacking him now. Anything but a win yesterday and maybe that would have been different.
Allardyce and Pearce are true passionate Englishmen with great motivational skills. I definately think Allardyce has proved himself at Premiership level and as a good tactician. He doesn't have the very highest level of experience yet tho and i think because of that, a foreign manager will always be linked with the job. If it was to be a foreigner, they would be better off considering one who has English league experience in Mourinho or Wenger, but i'm sure most people would agree, it should be a top Englishman, although they are in short supply at the moment.

Question is, can the FA afford to sack him? Would be end up with 2 ex England managers on job seekers allowance FFS ?
Why the fk do they pay them so much to start with? Why is the England coach the highest paid national coach in the world? Its the same with cricket. Fletcher is paid more than any of the others. Pay more, get less. Great business. The salary should be ten grand a year and a win bonus. That would focus the bastards.
