My lad's U9 team lost their cup quarter final this morning. 1-0 down, two goals in a minute to go 2-1 up then the opposition score with a mis-hit cross that went straight in with the last kick of normal time. After extra time it was down to penalties - three each then sudden death. My lad was to take the third and they were 2-1 down meaning he had to score to keep his team in it. Up he stepped, hit it firmly to the top corner only to see it go a couple of inches the wrong side of the woodwork. Opposition through 2-1 in the shootout out and my lad on the floor in tears inconsolable. Football can be a horrible game sometimes.

Hard lesson to learn.

Tell him that it's good to get that miss out of the way while he's so young.

Apparently Stuart Pearce, Chris Waddle and Gareth Southgate always used to score penalties at Under 9 level..... scratchchin
