On Tuesday 6th of March i am organising an 18 mile Sponsored walk for a Childrens Cancer ward Charity,if you can take some time to read below we would be most grateful.
BTFC FANS & CABBIES SPONSORED WALK.
Basingstoke to Farnborough Approx 18 miles Tuesday 6/3/07,(Day of Farnborough T v Basingstoke T 7.45pm kick off)

I've never asked for charity in my life but here goes;
As some of you will already know my daughter who was then 5 years old was 15 months ago diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Neuroblastoma. This childhood cancer only hits the under 5's! The Consultant gave her a 30% chance and although her treatment protocol has been largely successful she still has just a 50% chance of still being with us in 5 years time. Still a precarious position but we will celebrate her 7th birthday in March with alot of hope.
In the last 15 months Emily has had a course of 8 initial lots of Chemotherapy followed by a major 9 hour operation, another very high dose of Chemotherapy, a Stem Cell Transplant, and Radiotherapy aswell as all kinds of different procedures and regular tests. It's fair to say that in the last 15 months my wife and I have seen things that no parent should ever see their child go through.
We have got to know a number of children in this time and their families. Some of the children we have met have been treated with great success, some of the unluckier ones didn't make it.
Emily is at home, going to school and is a fun loving little girl again. We are nearing the stage of her treatment where we simply keep our fingers crossed that she does not relapse.
As Basingstoke fans we have lost atleast 2 loyal fans to cancer this year. Their fight and that of local children with the same desease hits us all hard and puts many things into true perspective.
A lady that my wife works with (Jane Pearce) is soon to celebrate her 50th birthday. Instead of celebrating in a more conventional manner she, having been aware of our situation, is going to walk fpr over 10 days a section of the Great Wall of China to raise money for the Ward in Southampton that continues to treat Emily and children like her. The ward is a truely magical inspirational place treating only children with cancer. I swear that if you spent just an hour on the ward or one like it it would be something that you'd never forget. Any child diagnosed with cancer in Basingstoke is treated at the same Piam Brown Ward in Southampton. This charity is one that means an awful lot to my wife and I.

On a note closer to home,we supporters and cabbies cant change the circumstances but we can certainly help in a small way by fund raising for the same cause,hence the walk.
