Right, let's start another thread cos the old Ashes one was getting boring what with all the sniping and anyway, it's over!

How are we going to do - does anyone car and does it matter? At 20/20 first I mean.

Seeing as last time we played Aus at 20/20 we won by 100 runs I thought it did then as we played them before the Ashes in 2005 and any hiding we dished out was gonna make them think.
But we played the Ashes first this time cos they just *have* to have their Tests built around Boxing day and New Year ...

Starts at 8.30am Tues morning ... the Aussies are wearing shirts with nicknames on and enterint into the spirit of it really while we are just playing it with a staright bat as it were.

Australia squad (nicknames in brackets): R Ponting (capt; PUNTER), A Gilchrist (CHURCH), M Hayden (HAYDOS), M Hussey (HUSS), M Clarke (CLARKEY), A Symonds (ROY), C White (BEAR), B Hogg (GEORGE), N Bracken (ANDY G), M Johnson (NOTCH), B Lee (BINGA), B Hilfenhaus (HILFY).

England squad: M Vaughan (capt), J Anderson, I Bell, P Collingwood, J Dalrymple, A Flintoff, E Joyce, J Lewis, S Mahmood, P Nixon, M Panesar, K Pietersen, L Plunkett, C Read, A Strauss, C Tremlett.

Let's get it on ...

looking forward to it (the 20/20) slap, bash and giggle all the way ... great way to spend a few hours and could be just short enough to amuse some yanks with their short attention span (similar to my 11yo boy who kept asking all the way through the tests on days 1-3 "are we winning ?" "is it finished yet ?"

as for the ODIs it turns into a chance for teams with absolutely no hope to have a chance of beating the best in the world so maybe Oz can win a few

My missus hasn't quite got the hang of the cricket - she's okay if it's a one dayer - highest score wins etc but if it's two innings she gets a tad confused! 20/20 is about as simple as it gets really ... we went to see a few 20/20 games a couple of years ago (incidentally saw Pietersen lbw for 0 first ball playing for Notts at Leicester) which made the crowd laugh somewhat (it was at Leicester).

Another good story there was some guys had won a competition to have beers and pizzas served to them under the scoreboard while they reclined on a sofa ... ideal really. Inbetween innings this pizza delivery moped drove round the outfield and dropped off their food. No sooner had they scoffed it than the second innings began and some guy clouted a six to square leg - on offer was year's supply of beer from the sponsors should someone in the crowd catch a six - stone me, one of these guys stood up and as he walked to get a beer from a table by the side of the sofa he looked up and the ball was coming straight to him. He caught it and carried on walking without breaking step and picked up his beer to the acknowledgemebt of the crowd!

The match was on Sky and they even sent David Lloyd round the boundary to talk to them ...

Great three hours entertainment is 20/20! Here's hoping for a close match whoever wins!

the winner doesn't matter, it's who slogs the ball the furthest .... my money's on either Symo or Gilly....or they both get a duck hehe

my wife is a very keen cricket fan so there are no arguments in our house, except when I scream at the opposition if they get too close thanks to some stupid ruling by the umpire (especially those gooses Billy Bowden or Rudi Koertsen )not that I don't think the Aussie umps are angels in the decision making dept (D.Hair rolleyes )

bring back Dickie and Shep

97-2 from 8.1 - Gilly just out - strewth!

Don't know what the highest international score is in 20/20 but this could be it ...

Have I read somwhere about a 20/20 World Cup or have I just dreamt that?

The missus quite likes the cricket - she just doesn't understand it! And they say the offisde law always needs explaining!

Good god - at this rate the England innings won't last 20 overs, let alone score enough runs with 11.68 per over required!

Geeezus!! Talk about daunting - you start your innings with a RR reqd of over 11!! These Aussies really want to send your mob back completley flogged in every way! Lets hope KP can add some respect for your lads; team bloke or not (spoke too soon - he's walking back to the pavillion!)!

221/5 record innings & you guys got a record too - Anderson "worst 20/20 bowling figures in history"

Am I shooting too early to say......

Bloody hell - demanding 12.2 runs/over from a poor tail is just a bit much! Top order should be ashamed of themselves. No Warney or McGrath this time, Vaughan is back, what's the excuse this time?

Joce was on a mission - been carrying the drinks for so long he wanted to make an impression - but in the first over? Get the pace of the pitch first blimey. Same goes for Flintoff - bad choice of shot.

Didn't see KP out but he's not as quick as he thinkgs obviously.

A nice ton from Vaughney and a few chipping in with 20's and we'll get home.

I can dream!

Edit: the skipper's out now!

That's it - over 3 runs a ball now required and a very unwaggy tail. Definitively screwed, quite pathetic.

127 wanted from 36 balls on the BBC website

yikes and double yikes

There's still bits to play for on a personal level here - Nixon is as tough a match player as they come and I hope he does well - he was good behind the stumps and chatters away non-stop.

We might end up getting beat but I at least want to see some enthusiasm!

Hopefully he'll do well in the upcoming one-dayers and the who knows for the World Cup. Knowing our selectors we'll pick james Foster for that or something.

Great 7th wicket stand. OK, they're way off on the run rate but that was never going to be possible once the top order collapsed. At least some semblance of honour is saved and the team might actually bat through the 20 overs, which looked unlikely a short time ago!

Well, you had Harwood making his debut and he's 32 - hardly the new breed,.

I could watch Gilly bat forever, he is such an unassuming bloke, he was even commentating while he was batting !!

Michael Slater and Tubby Taylor suggested he should just hit 6s so he did !! biglaugh

I thought Australia lost their way a little in the middle but hard to be too picky hehe

But lets face it.. we are spoilt for choice & your selectors are scratching through every list they can find! No criticism of Nixon intended - he did well and TBH runs rings around useless Jones & Read.

I thought Nixon was good, played hard and took all the opportunities you would expect of an OLD guy in the death throws of his career .. he has a great attitude to the game I thought, a shame he is so old for England's sake.

What did you guys think of Vaughan's effort ?

tough gig to come back to

do you guys get the same tv feed we get with Taylor and Slater as the commentators ?

I'd never seen that Cameron White dude before but he sure could hit a ball eek

No, you get Channel 9 obviously - we get Sky with Hussain, Lloyd, Botham, Holding, Atherton etc and occasionally Ian Healey, Tubby and Slats pop up for a bit.

Not seen it all yet but if Vaughn's knee has held out then that's good.

Cameron White - 5 off 5 balls - ended up with 40 off 20 balls.

Captained Somerset to bottom position last year so swings and roundabouts hehe

Good entertainment though!

Good on Nixon though - a cricketer's cricketer - tough as old boots but if Alec Stewart played until he as 40 or so so can he.
