Hi all.

Have been to the Castleford Xscape tonight (great place by the way, cool that it was real snow!) for a practice run before going to Méribel a week on Friday . Should be really good, it will be my 3rd holiday on snow. Allthough I learnt on, and have been skiing on dry slopes, since I was about 14.
Allthough I am quite worried as there has been no snow there yet?! yikes

So where are you skiiers / boarders heading this season?

Chamonix in January (for a McNab course)
Tignes in March

Might manage a few days in Colorado if I can convince my boss to send me on a training course.

All these places sound good guys!

Do any of you know what to expect from Méribel? What are the slopes like, nightlife etc. Also need to hire skiis and buy a lift pass, so any rough ideas of cost, cheapest I seem to be coming across online seems to be about £300 for lifts and hire, that sound about right?

Meribel is great, v british and less upmarket than Courchevel. Some fairly lively bars but a lot of the Chalets are a bit of a trek or bus ride up the hill. Straight into the 3 vallee's from a kind of central lift area with 7 or 8 bubble and chair lifts heading in every direction (except down). Full 3 vallee's lift pass is expensive but probably best value / Km of runs anywhere. A v nice resteraunt down in Meribel village (cant think of name) for a leisurely lunch but low and slow lift out again. Hope the snow comes for christmas, plenty of time yet!
We're heading to Canada/Whistler on 6th Jan. 1st time over there, and can hardly wait. Just got to get this christmas thing out of the way....

Going to Panorama in Canada which is a 2 hour drive from Banff.

It will be my first time boarding stateside so i'm looking forward to boarding in powder. Far less likely to catch an edge if the snow is decent.

Only downfall is i'm flying out on Valentines day without my missus.

FYI I think we got quite a good deal (although we are only going for 1 week). 2 people per room, with 2 queen size beds (would have been £70 less if 4 shared a room), flights and lift passes for £521.

Did anyone notice that lift passes have rocketed in price. It seems £180 is the norm these days for a 6 day pass. I'm sure they were around £120 for the 5 years prior that I boarded in France and Italy.

Just got back from a weeks boarding in Banff...

Several inches of powder every day! the back side of the mountains were fantastic, virgin deep powder, the sort of thing you need to hike for hours/pay $100's on helecopters to get!

A great time, highly reccomended...

I'm off to Bankso in Bulgaria in March. Looking forward to it big time. Cheap booze and good quality slopes.
