Coin throwing seems to be rearing its ugly head at football once again and there have been several incidents just lately of players being hit by coins not to mention any fans who get hit that we dont hear about.
How can it be stopped and what charges are brought if someone gets caught throwing coins.

It comes down to how can you stop the spectators getting so wound up? The passions run high and some fool throws a coin because they can't control their emotions. Why does football cause such an emotional response from people who (reportedly) are rational human beings?

I think part of it is the mob culture that seems to pervade the grounds. I've been to matches with people who normally are well-spoken and polite, get to the stands and they start swearing at the players and ref and abusing the other fans. Why? Why is this acceptable? While it is acceptable, there'll always be others that take it further and throw things.

Tougher policing, more CCTV in the grounds and bans for anyone caught throwing anything.

Coin throwing at football has never gone away sadly, it's just when they hit players it makes the news and when they hit spectators it doesn't!

About 3 years ago I was at Cardiff City V Bristol City (I'm a BCFC fan) for a league one game. We had coins thrown at us when we went 1-0 up and I saw quite a few people with head wounds from where they had been hit.

When we went 2-0 up, plastic coke bottles filled with urine started flying over and by the time we were 3-1 up, the bottles and coins had been joined by the backs of seats!

Myself and my friend didn't actually get hit by anything, although there a few close calls. The most nerve racking thing was that we were in a packed terrace so could really move much to avoid the missiles, just duck when we saw them coming and hope for the best!

In my opinion, anyone caught throwing any kind of missile at a football game should be banned for life. I know it may sound harsh but a smack on the wrist and £50 fine just doesn't deter these people.

I agree 100% with this post.....we were at Cardiff recently at the Saints game(Saints fan) no problems, but there were one or two stories about coin throwing.
